Many long time owned subs are finally leaving in droves/how to fix dish bag network

Why would Charlie want to sell. He is still making a good living, providing a service we (almost) all appreciate and tweaking the others.
Charlie may be in it for the long haul, but I'm beginning to wonder about his buddy Jim. His insider trading notices were coming pretty hot and heavy for a while.

I have been wondering the same... Jim has been MIA the past few months... He wasn't on the last Charlie Chat plus missed the last few retailer chats as well.

Maybe he realizes that its time to move on and live life. Hes in a great position to do it.

It's not the college football fans upset (although we would like ESPN U in HD). It's the baseball nuts that complain. IMHO, if you're a major league baseball fan and still on Dish, that's your fault.

I, personally, don't care about baseball. However, I would like to see Dish fill in the missing Showtime/TMC (and Cinemax once their penny deal expires) HD East Coast channels. There's no excuse for that.

I don't have a problem with D* having more sports in HD, if I were big with baseball, I would be with them myself. Jthe redone let's me watch nil the way I usually do, without me having to do the switching.

For sports, I'm mostly watching golf or boxing, and there is no advantage to either one for those.

If I had a couple of million in the bank, I sure wouldn't be working.

I'd be building up my post count! :p

Seems just in June he sold over 400,000 shares worth over 8.5 million dollars lucky him.

I don't have a couple of million in the bank, or even a million, and I don't work. Retirement is great!

and yes, I am building up my post count! :D

Well whatever occurs in the future E has become a very different company since the breakup of programming from technology side.

theres the move to tv over internet, charlie may decide its time to cash out, while value is at its peak.

local phone service is largely obsolete........

tv providers may be headed the same way........

as a major league baseball fan and as a Dish customer, why exactly is it my fault?

I do not see how this is true. 2 HDDVRs with MRV with DirecTV can do much more than 2 HDDVRs with Dish.

Simple. I can record 2 SAT + 2 OTA on the main HDDVR and do it quite often during the networks season. To do that would take 2 D* HDDVRs with their 2 only recording.

Then my adult son, whose taste is completely different from mine, would need one for his stuff.

So, total 3 HDDVRs. Now one of them could be a 612 (for my son) as he doesn't use PIP. I do though.

I can see where he was coming from.

If sports are the big thing and movies rather secondary, and national HD channels not all that important, then why would you be with Dish?

Of course, in many homes, dad loves sports, mom has different tastes - making the choice not as easy.

Because you want to record 6 things at one time? If so, then yes, Dish would can do more with less in this one instance.

Dish does more in my instance also. Two rooms, 1 DVR, no extra charges, and I don't need to record more than 2 channels since I have my own HTPCs for OTA. With D* I would need 2 DVRs which would be added cost at no added benefit.

Bottom line: it really depends on each individual situation, so the whole argument is moot for generalities.

You can always get the real facts from a Giants fan! :D

Oh yeah, it's easy. If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! :D

Because I like the Dish product a hell of a lot better than Directs product and I make no apologies for it.
Yes I am a baseball fan. No I don't live in my teams network.
Yes I am a football fan. Yes I live in my teams network.
I couldn't care less about the movie channels, never had them never will (waste of money and nothing on them IMO except for re-runs).
I make the decision to have and keep Dish because in my opinion it is a better product and a better deal for me. As far as sports go, I have the opportunity to see the Dodgers play 20+ times a year when they play the Rockies or are on ESPN, Fox Saturdays (though I think Tim McCarver is a complete idiot so I won't watch the games on Fox because of him) which is enough for me (because I actually have more going in my life than watching baseball or sitting in front of my tv 15 hours a day). I see every Bronco game which is just fine with me because again I couldn't care less about any other team.
I don't plan on switching to Direct, comcrap or any other provider until Dish shuts off their satellites. Like I said, I like the product, and I like what I am asked to pay over any of the other companies. If that is my fault some how as allargon put it, then so be it. But it's a stupid statement he made in my opinion.

I was talking specifically about 2 HD DVRs with Dish vs 2 HD DVRs with Direct. That is what he mentioned when I responded. With 2 HD DVRs the only advantage Dish has is the additional live tuners for OTA.

What product advantages? Most providers products are pretty comparable now. Just asking, that's all.

Having used both Dish, Direct, and comcrap's DVR's, I like Dish's the best.
Cannot comment myself as I have only used one. But, have you seen the new HR24 by Direct? From what others have posted that have used both the VIPs and the HR24, most say they are very comparable with the HR24 having an advantage in some areas and the VIPs in other areas.
