No, pretty much once you sign the contract, you're in for the full 2 years with a $480 early termination fee. Some retailers offer cancellation periods, but they're unusual and must be done through the retailer you bought the system from, not directv.

Just to clarify a couple of things because I didnt read all 8 pages of 'sez you!' and 'oh yeah?!?'. Did directv install the multiroom viewing option in your house? If so, the plain receivers should be able to view content from the dvr's. With the media sharing option thats included with the dvr's, you should be able to show pictures on the tv from a pc. Video and sometimes music are a bit more problematic.

What dvr's and receivers did you get?

Fightfan:

Essentially you got a free HD-DVR and free HD receiver, which can do MRV.

Additional HD receivers are $99 each.

You got 3 free SD receivers, which are free at sigunup.

If you want MRV in the extra rooms, you need HD receivers there. They will probably switch them for you at the $99 price, which is no different cost than what it would have been if they signed you up with the correct equipment for what you wanted to do.

Just got off the phone with DTV about this (viewing dvr in every room) and about internet access and dtv won't do anything to make a happy customer.

I had 3 very specific concerns and request when I ordered.

I have kids, very important to be able to view the dvr in every room. Salesperson said I would.

Internet access to share photos, etc like on my Tivo when family comes over. Salesperson said I would.

NFL Sunday ticket. Sales person said I would.

Out of my three big request and concerns the Sunday ticket was the only one that was actually true.

Are these sales people held accountable for lying to potential new customers or are they trained by dtv to do this?

I asked the person I talked to today from dtv if there are a certain number of days I have to cancel my service without being held to my contract and she said I have 14 days to cancel and not be held to my contract. Is the 14 days true?

depeneds on your state and it from the day your ordered and not the day you are installed so I could call if your so unhappy before it is too late.

Thanks. I will check with my kids tomorrow night and see how big of a deal it is to them since I was getting the whole house viewing for them. They sometimes argue about which show to watch on the DVR, LOL!

As for the internet, the person I talked to today said I would have to pay $75 for the wireless adapter and they would just ship it to me to install myself. Does that sound right? Still makes me mad that there is no accountability on their behalf. Now I feel like I have to question everything and things just keep showing up that they never told me about like the $6 monthly equipment protection plan after the first month.

One thing about Charter was they were always up front and you got what they said you would get. Is all this worth it for now what the only reason for getting DTV was the Sunday ticket? Time will tell.

Another limitation you may have to consider is that with one DVR and up to four HD receivers in a WHD setup, only one of the HD receivers would be able to view the DVR recordings at a time. I see trouble remaining until at least one more HD-DVR is added. Sorry to hear that wasn't explained in a way that's mutual to all parties concerned.

It is a good setup if you can swing the h/w start-up costs or just upgrade as you can afford it. I started with one HD-DVR and now have three but I think it's more cost effective to start with the two HD-DVRs and add then HD receivers at upgrade cost.

good points armchair. I still have a tivo that I was going to cancel but may und up keeping if I decide to stay with DTV.

What really rubs me the wrong way is the sales people and apparently what they will say and do to get new customers. Bad image for DTV and seriously will effect what I tell others about DTV when discussing cable with others. Either they have no clue about the equipment or it's just part of the job to swindle people.

dont buy the wireless kit. If you going to keep the service call us up asap before the two week mark and tell them they were suppose to install the internet connnection kit (25 dollars) as only one internet connection kit works with whd and that is the deca broadband adapter pluggging in the wireless one would break whole home dvr.

Excellent tip; I agree on all four points! I totally missed that on my reply to the same post.

Thanks Stonecold! Problem is I called earlier today and told them that. The lady I talked to pretty much sorry that's not what the order states and that I would need to by the $75 dollar one and that they would ship to me and install myself.

Also, is this needed for whd? My whd does not work. My HD receiver does not see the DVR. The HD DVR is set to share. Any suggestions?

Also, the installer connected a phone line to one of the standard receivers and said that all the other receivers will recognize this. Is this correct?

Again, thanks for all the help!

Dont buy anything yet till we can get this taken care of .

as far as the installer go he is correct on a SWM setup only 1 reciever needs to be plugged int to a phone line the other recievers can then call home through that one box.

Sorry, no offense to anyone, But Scott, and Claude is the only one I would trust with this Private information.
They are the ONLY two that has a proven backround, By Proven a mean a legitimate website. And legitimate Businesses.

There's ways to do things , and there is ways not to do things.

You can get as mad as you want Stone, and be as childish about it as you want, But I'm sure MANY people have the same feeling about Posting account info and Phone Numbers to people we've Never met ,As I do on the subject.

I'm just trying to answer a question you asked about why people won't directly ask for your help with account issues.

If your legit , well then prove it. Get together with Scott and make this a section on Satellite guys, with your credentials.

If your On the D* support forums, then Direct us over there, so our account issues can be handled by you in a professional manner.

:up:up:up:up:up

I have to agree with Hemi, why would anyone in their right mind give a total stranger their personal information?

I DON'T know if you really work for D* and if you do who cares, if I have a problem I will call D* support, I never had a problem with them.

I personally don't think you should be asking for people's personal info but if people want to give it to you, well that's up to them.

If you have a problem with that check with Scott he already vetted me out. That all I say on the matter.

Now I was simply offering to help they dont have to take it. I am glad you never had a problem with Dtv support. That is good to hear but not everyone has had that luck. Some would rather talk to me as a normal human being then and have me lay it out to them and how the company does things so they understand . Somes times I ill get personally involved if it is warranted.

I am simply an alt route to get a ends to a means. I am here for the ones that want help. Though based on the OP lack of interest here this just turn out to be a I want to complain thread not a I want to get anythign done about it or he would of posted back

Well I deleted that post because after reading it, I felt we didn't need anymore complaining posts, even though I still agree with everything I posted.

Yep everytime I call they ask for last 4 of SS number. Phone number and name would never work..Some people need to grow up and let it go already. Must be fun times in some certain someones home..Sheesh.

They never ask for my last four of my SSN, just my name.

First I like to say no offense taken because I know who you are and what you are. So I expect it.

Now on my credentials I be more then happy to supply them to scott I have no issue in that . But I am not posting them here Scott can verify my information and not post it here the hold point is that company offical stance is they have dtv.com support forums on there own site and feel other then dbstalk further affilations are not needed.

Simple answer to everything and the bottom line is this after scott checks me out which again i have no issue doing then I dont want ot hear a peep out of you on this subject. Fair enough?
there were acouple very good D* reps who used to post on the old DBSforums (Dan Collins) site who got fired for posting that they were D*reps..I wish Stonecold all the best and dont blame for wanting to be anonymous
