froyo for droid leaked

I am not sure if it is locked or not.

I did download setCPU, and that is correct.
So how would I do a recovery to stock. I assume I would need to backup somehow first?

Next step before doing anything else is to install rom manager, use it to flash clockworkmod recovery, and then use rom manager to do a backup of your existing rom. You can do that when you attempt to isntall a custom rom, but I'd do it by yourself.

That's good to have regardless (the backup). And if you were to "brick it" you shoudl be able to boot into recovery (power+X key held down) and launch nandroid from there, and restore the rom.

But before I'd try to flash a rom, I'd really do some research in droidforums and androidforums, because the more I think about it, the less likely I think it will work. You are using a Droid, BUT on a different carrier. And all of those roms are designed for verizon. My gut says it won't work. :(

Indeed, you might look for threads on kernels, and not roms; because its possible (and I am totally speculating here) that you might be able to flash a kernel to an existing rom, but man, I just don't know enough about the technology to say that with any certainty.

So if I have the backup and try to install say bugless beast v1.1 and it does not work, I SHOULD be able to reboot and restore with the backup I made? Best guess.

So I found a thread where a guy that has the exact same model/build/and kernel info that ours does was able to get froyo on his following the guide here A Guide to get Froyo - for NON-ROOTED users

Thoughts?

I can see this working and here is why.

1. You are using RSD Lite(I believe I suggested to you before)
2. You are forcing over an approved SBF file(Original Image)
3. The Milestone still has locked bootloader so I believe Custom roms like BB can not happen.(links below may prove otherwise)

I have moved from a Droid to Droid X. They appeared to be closer to cracking the bootloader. Something that will make this more like is the original SBF on the Droid X has been released.

If you force a ROM to a device in which the Bootloader has not been cracked it will brick the device. However, with the SBF file you can recover it because it will be recognized as a authentic Motorola Rom. Prior to switching to Droid X, I installed Cyanogen 6.0 RC1 on my Droid and it screwed it up. It wouldnt let me recover my backup image through Nanodroid. Luckily I had the original 2.0.1 SBF which let me recover and preform the updates.

As for sites I prefer XDA. Check these links

The only thing is, from what I can tell, the milestones most mention are the GSm versions. Ours is CDMA. I am not sure if this makeds a difference.

Since I am already rooted, no need?
Or should I unroot and go that route?

No need. The method shown there is to get rooted; and that method has been supplanted thanks to the exploit that was found, making it one click.

Alas, the real question is what will happen when you try to flash bugless to it; again, since you are NOT on Verizon, I am very leery it will work.

I just don't know.

Roms will be differnt if it is CDMA and not GSM. Guess I never notice the released a CDMA version. Differnce will be the radio in the original SBF.

I get the CDMA and GSM difference, but in lots of the roms I have seen posted on droid-Life, there have been warning that it is just for a particular phone; and we do not know what Todd's carrier has done that might make it different from Verizon.

Oh come on Todd - just go for it, so we'll know :) The worst thing you could do is create a $500 paperweight. ;)

Haha, a little more info and I AM going for it.:D

Just want to ask more question here and other places.

If it seems like I am asking simple questions, I AM! lol. I want to get the best info, in simple terms, from people I trust before I do it.

With the model number being different, I am guessing I should wait until I have more info.

Yeah, Before now, I do not think there has been a US cdma version that is different.

I did see that one in mexico, and that is where I am going to focus right now. If you guys have any more advice or thoughts, do not hesitate. Please! lol

Have you tried XDA? Since that is definitely a worldly site you might have better shot. I will assume this is a Cellular South Milestone.

Well, our bootloader may not be locked after all. A guy at droidforums says he rooted and installed bugless beast 2.2 on his milestone.

Been running BB .4 since it was released and in the last 2 days I've started having lockups, including having to pull my battery once. Another time i was trying to close the handcent quick message window and the phone wouldnt respond. 5-6 seconds later the phone seemed to 'catch up' and it was acting like my finger was on the Beautiful Widgets time/weather widget and moving it back and forth on the screen very smoothy for several seconds... it was almost creepy, like using a Ouija board and it moving on it's own.

Close to dropping to a stock ROM cause I am not sure how else I should troubleshoot. I've got insurance but would hate for something to go wrong with this phone and have to activate a X or 2 and reset my new every 2 or something.
