SatelliteGuys First Look Review - DISH Sling Adapter

I dont know if DISHstore is going to carry them or not, hes kind of mad as hes got a bunch of GoogleTV's he can't get rid of because DISH is selling them direct to customers for less then he paid for them. :(

Well, he might sell more Revues if he actually put them somewhere on DISHSTORE.NET :! I can't find them by browsing, and nothing comes up when you try searching for "Google", "Logitech", or "Revue".

He had them up but people were calling him asking him to price match dish, which he couldn't do.

The iPad app is done and ready to go and was supposed to be out already. The issue was the release of iOS 4.2 was delayed 2 weeks due to the fact they (Apple) had a but in WIFI that was causing some peoples iPads not to function with WIFI if they were running 4.2.

For once it was not DISH screwing something up. :)

And now Apple released 4.2.1 to developers so it may be more of a delay releasing to public. Hopefully it will be before Thanksgiving.

What Will You Watch On Using The DISH Sling Adapter?

Although I don't have the DISH Sling Adapter yet, I am sure that I will get it. Anyway, what device(s) do you intend to watch DISH on while using the DISH Sling Adapter? What devices would you like to see compatible with this? For me, I have a Pansonic Toughbook CF-29 that I sue at work and I hope to use that. It just has a Sprint 3G wireless aircard, so I think it will be fast enough. I was sort of thinking that a small portable device like the Sony Dash Dash™ Personal Internet Viewer | Sony | Sony Style USA would be pretty neat to use for this application. They have these at my local Sam's Club Dash Personal Internet Viewer - Sam's Club and despite the price shown online, they are only $149.99 in the stores near me.

Or even something like the Sungale 4.3" Portable Internet LCD DTV ITV430
Walmart.com: Sungale 4.3" Portable LCD DTV, Access over 700 channels via Internet FREE: TV & Video
Sungale: Premier Designer and Manufacturer of Digital Products Actually, what would be really slick would be if some company would make a small TV that has NTSC/ATSC/ATSC-MH as well as the ability to get DISH TV via wifi, but that is probably just wishful thinking on my part!

Thanks for setting me straight on this. Good to know it is just around the corner. We're all waiting for 4.2 for the print function, and multitasking and now for sling too.

I ordered mine early this morning. It's supposed to be here Monday. I can't wait.

I guess I will know for sure on Monday when mine gets to my door, but how strict are the PC requirements to play back video. On the site it looks like you need at least a 2.8GHz processor to play back HD video. Does the Dish Sling player use Flash? I have a M11x laptop, it has a 1.73 core 2 duo but a decent video card, so Flash does pretty well when it is hardware accelerated.

Limited receivers supported

I have a VIP 211 receiver hooked to the Internet with the DVR activated. I can't believe they made it so this Sling adapter won't work with my receiver! Would any of the other Sling devices give me the same capabilities as this new Dish Sling adapter? (Please forgive me if this is a dumb question.)

I have a regular old slingbox pro with my 222 and it works fine...harder setup than this new sling adapter (svideo cable and IR blaster) and it's not HD, but it works and it was free from a co-worker. However I can't seem to add my Slingbox to Dish Online even though the functionality is supported. There's just something wrong with the Dish site that's stopping it from being added. For now I just have to use the Sling software rather than the Dish branded stuff.

This has probably been asked, but if I'm on a computer in my house and want to access my 722 via the Sling, does my request go up to the Dish site to retrieve the video?

I would expect that to be the case if I was accessing my 722 from a remote location via a laptop or mobile phone, but if your on a computer in the same house as the 722 and on the same network the 722 is plugged into, that is dumb.

No extra fees... now stop talking about extra fees, don't give them any ideas. :D
Well, I'll try not to say anything. :) But, I'm real disappointed in the 922. I paid $200 plus $4 extra a month. Seems all the other receivers are getting the same capabilities with these add-ons, but are more stable. Maybe I'll upgrade from a 922 to a 722k.

I agree with the 922 we pay a penalty. the DVR fee is $10.00 while for the 772K the DVR fee is only $6.00. the 722k is more stable and has better support.

From what I have read and been told. On the LAN (local network) the dish website will create a direct connection to the Sling. And you can benefit from your router data throughput. If you are connected from outside the network, the video goes up to dish and then back down to the client. So there you are bound by your ISP data throughput.
