The Road to Super Bowl XLV: The 2010-11 NFL Playoffs

I've only watched the Packers once or twice this season. When did they get this good!? Rodgers was throwing lazers tonight! I thought Atlanta had a pretty good team this year.

Aaron Rodgers IS the real deal. He's accurate as hell.

The difference though was the two teams defenses. Particularly Green Bays secondary. They shut down Matty Ice. Atlanta's defense was very overrated this year and one of their top corners was out with an injury. Aaron Rodgers should get a much greater test against the Bears next week.

Who'da thunk that 2 teams from the NFC NORTH would make the playoffs ?

One has already advanced and the other should (they won the division and the other advanced).

When was the last time two teams from the same division played in a game where the winner advanced to the Super Bowl?

What is REALLY amazing is a team that had SO MANY players in IR, still to have gotten this far. That is what happens I guess when you have the patients to slowly develope a young QB....even with a great one in his prime.

Interesting find:

After QB, look to D: More than anything, the NFL is a quarterback league. Unless a team has a good one, it cannot go far. But the other must-have for any team is scoring defense. Of the eight playoff teams remaining, seven are in the top eight in fewest points allowed this season. Only Seattle does not stack up. Take a look at the teams, the number of points they've allowed and their ranking in scoring defense, and it'll be simple to see why we have the matchups we do.

POINTS ALLOWED BY REMAINING TEAMS

1 Pittsburgh 232
2 Green Bay 240
3 Baltimore 270
4 Chicago 286
5 Atlanta 288
6 New York Jets 304
8 New England 313
25 Seattle 407

I did not know that the Pack D* stood up this well ...

Don't completely agree with this.

As evidenced in my posts above, it's the teams with a running game that still have the most success.

The teams with three of the best QB's in the league are no longer in the playoffs. (Brady, Manning, Brees). Instead, Mark Sanchez and the Jay Cutler's of the world are still in. What gives? Defense. And a run game. Yes it takes a good game manager for a QB, but I would still take defense and a solid run game over a stud QB and no run game and/or defense.

Monday Morning QB: 1 Liners

1. Belichick out Belichicked himself.

2. Matty Ice, Tramon Williams. Tramon Williams Matty Ice.

3. Mike Martz curbing his typical pass-first mentality in favor of a more balanced attack has made a world of difference to the Bears offense.

4. Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore: A tale of two halves.

Add to that, the regular season scores mean NOTHING in the playoffs. Seattle completely rattled the BEARS in Chicago earlier in the year, though the score was only 23-20, the Seahawks totally dominated that game, especially in the 2nd half. And that 45-3 ass whippin' by the Pats also meant nothing because the JETS owned the line of scrimmage and they completely had Brady looking like a dear in headlights yesterday.... something you rarely see.

I love the Packers over the Bears in the NFCCG (in fact, I now like the Pack to win it all). However, I have a feeling I'm going to flip-flop all week in the AFC.

IMO, NYJ-PIT is one of the toughest playoff games to call in recent memory. I have no idea which way to go on this one.

No matter who wins the two games next Sunday, we'll have a first ever Super Bowl matchup. Even the Steelers- who have played in seven Super Bowls- have played neither the Packers or the Bears.

IF the BEARS win, my wife has "forced" me to have a Super Bowl Party. She is a HUGE BEARS fan(a Chicago girl) and wore her Walter Payton jersey and singing the BEARS fight song ALL DAY yesterday.... LOL! The kids were screaming, "MOOOOMMMMMMM.....we know, we know....you are a BEARS fan and they won!"....

Could care less who wins in the AFC. I like neither the Jets or Steelers. The last thing I want to hear is more smack talk from the bandwagon Steeler fans in this city. I really don't care to see Braylon Edwards doing celebratory cartwheels either. That game is a no-win for me.

I am putting my full support behind the Packers though. Green Bay is my 2nd favorite NFL team. They have a solidly run program, rich history and they reside in blue-collar middle America. In no other sport would a professional team last in Green Bay. Only in the NFL is it possible! Go Cheeseheads!

That really didn't bother me. To me it was a jubilant, "hey, we finally slayed the monster". I saw the Red Sox celebrate in Yankee Stadium in 2004 and felt the same way.

I'd be a hypocrite if I now complain about the Jets letting loose in Foxboro.

Oh boy, this is starting to become SOME heated rivalry....

"I'm just frustrated. The embarrassing part came from a few classless guys [on the Jets] after the game," he said. "There were a lot of classless things that went on after the game ended.''

Branch said, according to the Boston Herald, that Jets players taunted the home crowd after the game, with some even giving fans the finger.

"Didn't you see it? You've got to go back and watch it," he said. "Pretty classless stuff.'

"I remember the 45-3 blowout here last time. I remember [those] guys," running back LaDainian Tomlinson said, according to the New York Post. "We made that up, right? So why can't we do it? They did it. So it's fair game. It's fair game."

Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas appeared shocked by Branch's accusations.

"Oh wow. Oh wow. That's a strong statement," he said, according to the Post. "We don't have any classless guys in here. Guys are excited about the win, emotions are high. Guys are excited. I don't know what he meant by that statement.

It's funny but I was talking about this with my daughter this morning. She was pissed when Cromartie did the shhhh thing with his finger when he ran back the onside kick, and when Greene used the football as a pillow prop when he scored the touchdown........but you know what I told her?
I remember certain Patriots doing the same thing in Pittsburgh after BOTH AFCCG and in San Diego after the Pats beat the Chargers in Jan. '07.

Moral of the story............If you want to dish it out.........well, you know the rest.

Besides, like I said last night, the Jets came in here with a superior gameplan and whooped the Pats arse all over Gillette. Deal with it and move on, Deion!

I want to play for this coach.

Jerry Sloan resigns?!
