This is exactly what he stated. He said the first will just be a mini festivus that will only make a few happy. In the next month or two will be the large one
Yea well thats definitly Mini! And 2 well OVER DUE Premiums that all the other providers have had for months even Years.

I think when your back as far as D* is, a smarter move would be adding 2 HD channels like BBC HD and AMC HD.

Not the Premiums that were set to launch 2 years ago and never did!

Dish bias flows strong here...

Why is being unimpressed with D*'s national HD rollouts recently show a Dish bias?

You wouldn't catch me dead with Dish and their 17 dish solution, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize D*.

Yes Bob you are correct, in fact if I remember correctly DIRECTV helped fund some channels so they could get their HD channels up and running.

DIRECTV did a lot to push HD in the US they were going SO GOOD and then one day BOOM something happened and HD was no longer a priority.

Yes, the company was sold and it hasn't been proactive with adding channels since.

DodgerKing: March 30 is a Wednesday, not a Thursday. DirecTV usually picks Wednesdays for channel launches.

Jimbo: You may as well as say DirecTV has abandoned high definiton (except for where it's necessary, like with locals and, with pressure, the NCAA games on truTV).

In addition to HBO and Cinemax multi-screens, a couple more HD Extra Pack channels, it's non-premiums that should be the focus.

Meant Wednesday

If their new monthly magazine is any indication (and historically the old mag had alot of incorrect info), the new HD channels are GSN , HBO Signature, HBO Family and Fox Soccer Plus (from part time to full time).

Well, it is nice to see D* finally rolling out those HBO HD feeds that they were supposed to be since 2007. Oh, wait...some of those HD feeds that were supposed to be launched in 2007 are still missing....

DIRECTV to Offer 11 HBO/Cinemax Channels in HD

HBO, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Latino and Cinemax Channels Among HD feeds to Launch Beginning in September of this Year

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--June 13, 2007--Continuing to pack its lineup with premium-quality HD channels for launch this fall, DIRECTV will begin to roll out the HD feeds of 11 HBO and Cinemax channels nationally in September.
In addition to the HBO (East) HD channel it currently offers, DIRECTV will launch the following HBO/Cinemax channels in full-time HD: HBO West, HBO2 West, HBO2 East, HBO Family East, HBO Family West, HBO Latino, HBO Signature, Cinemax East, Cinemax West and MoreMax. The channels will begin rolling out in September and continue to launch through the rest of the year. DIRECTV currently carries each of these channels in standard-definition.
"Through our determination to push for more and better HD programming, and HBO's commitment to provide 11 HD feeds, we're continuing to set the pace in the HD marketplace," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development, DIRECTV, Inc. "The sheer volume and quality of the HD programming DIRECTV is launching this fall clearly sets us apart from cable and Echostar. The new HD channels from HBO, which continue to offer compelling and critically acclaimed programming, will be an exciting addition to our growing HD lineup."
The new HBO channels will be among the up to 100 national HD channels DIRECTV is planning to rollout by the end of 2007 following the launch of its D10 satellite in July. The new services will be available beginning in September and will continue to roll out through the end of the year.
An additional DIRECTV satellite will launch early next year to support further HD expansion. Between the two satellites, DIRECTV will have the capacity to deliver an industry leading 1,500 local HD and digital channels and 150 national HD channels, in addition to new advanced programming services for customers.

I agree, did I say otherwise ?

I find premiums a waste of money but for those that enjoy them its better than nothing.

Don't forget their $17 extra "lease" fee. It pisses me off every month. But I stay with them because they have the channel lineup in HD that I find the best at the moment. If DirecTV was to get off of their ass and add some more HD, I might have to give them a second look.

Time to put the festivus pole away...

As much as I like HBO as a long time subscriber, I honestly have it for the shows on HBO and not the one movie I may catch on HBO Sig every 6 months. It is clear that people want National HD. Fluffing premiums, while entirely expected, doesn't change anything for the average D* sub.
