Will this come with STABLE software? Will hardware issues (i.e. high bit recording) be fixed and stable? If not, I can't justify buying anymore until they provide us with a finished product.

We won't know the answer until the receivers hit the market but I think you probably know the answers...
I'm guessing the new receivers will user different firmware although we will see.

My Ultra also runs at 300mhz which is what I think all current AZbox receivers are at default settings. New chipset on paper appears significantly faster.

I agree, with the overclocking(AZBox calls it hardware acceleration) set to "ON" I get 366Mhz cpu frequency, which is good enough for most high bite rate content but not ALL of it. Next generation may just have enough poop to do the job properly.

Edit:
High bit rate recording.

My Ultra also runs at 300mhz which is what I think all current AZbox receivers are at default settings. New chipset on paper appears significantly faster.

I figured that the closer they came to releasing the real first version of E2 it would require a new receiver as many people would not have the ability to perform the required actions for the change-over.
Plus the fact that the current hardware in the Azbox is limited and needed to be upgraded to perform some tasks.

If the new receiver can record and playback the high bitrate recordings and not lose any of the current features of the Premium Plus then it would be a blind buy here.

After more info was received it appears this is a low end market receiver over the Premium Plus receiver.
OpenSat did confirm this new receiver would be coming out and that they were indeed for the low end market and they are going to continue marketing the Premium Plus for the North American Market.
Some have said the New Azbox ME may be geared towards the South American Market.

How does this compare to what is in the Azbox now?
The newer processor is much faster and has native SATA support. The older SMP8634 processor is slow and does not support SATA. An EIDE to SATA conversion chip is used for the hard drive interface. I would expect better compatability with SATA drives and faster network file transfers.

The question is will there be a new version of the premium plus based on the new processor?

Here is the translation: for what it is worth: (without photo's)

::Not sure if they are talking about the Premium and the Premium Plus or really a new receiver called the Plus 2. ::

Company OpenSat Lda. again pleases its customers new products - satellite receivers AzBox HD Premium Plus and AzBox HD Premium Plus II .

AzBox HD Premium Plus II.

what is different is the completion of a product line from a familiar device - AzBox Premium HD .

The new devices differ only in the number of tuners. AzBox HD Premium Plus comes with a DVB-S2 tuner (the second slot to install an additional tuner card - empty), and AzBox HD Premium Plus II is equipped with two DVB-S2 tuners, ie is a TWIN.

In our review, we consider a top model AzBox HD Premium Plus II.

Appearance and delivery
The device at first glance looks almost identical to its predecessor: the same black metal housing with plastic front panel. The location of all controls and displays - is similar.

The package includes the following:
• AzBox HD Premium Plus II;
• Power supply with power cable;
• Remote control (batteries included);
• Fixing computer's hard disk;
• Instruction Manual.

The remote control is exactly the same as in version Premium HD - convenient and with the ability to control the TV.

As we see, in comparison with AzBox Premium HD, a set of somewhat poorer - not enough HDMI-cable and SATA-cable to connect the hard drive.

SATA-cable in this case is not available separately, because the manufacturer had already installed it inside the enclosure. But the lack of bundled HDMI-cable may be a few upset customers.

Opportunities for connecting
The rear panel contains the following connectors and components (from left to right and from top to bottom):
• Power switch;
• Connector for power supply;
• Cooling fan;
• HDMI;
• LAN;
• USB-host;
• 0/12V;
• Optical S / PDIF;
• Component Video (3RCA);
• Composite video (RCA);
• Analog stereo (2RCA);
• SCART;
• LNB (in / out) - 2 pcs.

As you can see, the possibilities for connecting virtually identical - missing only RF-modulator (the value of this unit and in the Premium version looks doubtful).

Installing a hard drive
As we promised earlier - will tell you about the appointment of hatch located at the top of the device.
If you unscrew the five screws that are on the perimeter of the hatch, it can be open (there is a convenient cut-out to simply remove the hatch).
Following these simple manipulations becomes available to a special compartment for installing the hard drive of a light metal. This compartment is freely removed from their nests to install a hard drive.

HDD should be inserted in the tray, combine the fixing holes and screw drive to the tray screws supplied.
After that just connect SATA-cable and assemble the unit in reverse order.
It is obvious that this method of installation is much simpler than the version of the Premium HD.

Unfortunately, installation is supported only 3.5 "hard drives. To drive 2.5" hardware not included.
Such constructive, we have described in a review of the other device - AzBox Media Center .
The inner contents
In order to provide our readers with comprehensive information - Remove the cover of the device and look inside
We see that the deployment of nearly the same as its predecessor. But the more attentive readers will see the following differences:
• In the upper left corner of the motherboard - the installation site tuners;
• Changed the location of the module WiFi;
• Module DOM is different;
• Other minor changes.

Thus, we see a similar set of elements, but with a changed layout.
Note - changed way of fixing the radiator cooling - using a spring clamp (in a version Premium HD radiator just glued to the processor).
The motherboard connects to the motherboard front panel with a flexible loop. To minimize possible interferences, cable wound on a ferrite ring (black on white thickening of the plume).

At the same pictures seen Module DOM, 256MB capacity. Because of changes to the layout to place it horizontally - parallel to the bottom of the enclosure
An interesting fact is that the manufacturer has changed the constructive tuners.

The devices Elite HD and Premium HD tuners are connected to the motherboard by flexible cables.

In the version of Premium Plus and Premium Plis II tuners are inserted into a special "knife" connectors, which are clearly visible in the picture above.
Probably, the manufacturer would have significant reasons for this decision. Perhaps the availability of flexible cable for connecting a tuner, in some cases leads to additional interference.

But such a change leads to the fact that the manufacturer will produce two different versions of the tuners.

CAM-Module slots and smart card reader has not changed.
To sum up: the manufacturer has changed significantly constructive motherboard, power tuners, and tuners themselves have undergone changes. Addresses some of the shortcomings of previous devices.

Designers of OpenSat Lda. to realize the wishes of users from countries where the channel names contain national characters (for example, the Cyrillic alphabet) and used a new chip for display control - now do not need to use transliteration - the characters without distortion on the display.

The web page appears to be dated Feb of 2010 so it is a year old already.

Leads me to believe this is the premium plus receiver not a new plus 2 and as OpenSat never said a word about this as their last note less than a month ago was they were going to continue with the premium plus but not the Ultra as the Ultra would be replaced by AzBox ME as the new low end receiver.

Evidently this is just a language typo or something. (as far as Plus 2 is concerned)

From Azbox facebook page

Dear AZFans:

In the past, AZBox was more turned to work with Linux, though with strategic partnerships that allowed us to have some products differentiated from our competitors.

Those solutions, however, were always developed under NDA and it did not allow us to open the SET TOP BOX code as much as we want.

Now the situation is different and we are endeavoring a lot of efforts to develop a more OPEN box and counting on the cooperation of the community. So, at ANGA Cable 2011 we will not only introduce a new range of STBs, but we will also present a new way to watch the development of our products and have real open source policies. Our objective is to develop together and grow with the community and not against it!

Furthermore, we will transfer this philosophy to our actual line models (AZBox Premium HD+, AZBox Elite HD, AZBox Ultra HD) and start from the beginning with those policies with AZBox Me and AZBox miniMe.

See you at ANGA!

Best Regards
Hugo Condessa
