Well E did put up the pirate channel years ago, you might say I was the idea guy the creator:) even had it turned on at my home by mike dugan and I still have the thank you letter. Uncle mike is a great guy:)

Look this was going to be discussed once those numbers are reported no matter what.....

I am but a messenger of coming events:)

Which news? E* lost subscribers but still posted a profit? Sounds like old news to me.;):D

And in the end these results are that's what the Beancounters are counting? Was there a profit? That's all folks!.:)

That really is the point. Would you rather have 1000 customers that gave you $1 profit each or 500 customers that gave you $3 profit each? I'd take the 500 customers and the extra 50% profit any day of the week. The bottom line is what really matters.

Bottom line isn't all that matters... why did the other 500 leave you? did they find out they were getting ripped off? did they find that your competitor offered the same services, but yet was friendlier? or did you commit some socially unacceptible action, club baby seals, run over people's grandmothers... and so they left you?

If the 1000 people at $1 profit, like your service, and find you competitive, they can be a positive force in getting additional people to come to your service. etc...

so.. 500 talking nasty about you, waiting for the next "oops" to just dump you for something/anything else? Or 1000 people that talk highly of your services, extol your virtues, the bible reading you gave last week at the pie social...

doubt that is the case. the current economic conditions and new customer pricing (offers from other providers) has a lot more to do with it.

Fair enough, I should have said bottom line trends are the only thing that matters.

He wasn't saying that they had a thousand and 500 left. He said which would you rather have $1000 or $1500 from customers.

:) I wasn't trying to be mean.. the "you" didn't mean you personally.. some of my best friends are pie eaters.. lol

I know ... but the concept is valid.. its not really a matter of how much you're making *from* them ... its are you going to be able to keep making from them.

If you raised your rates everytime someone left you, to cover losing them ... you'd very quickly put yourself out of business.. you can't pick higher paying customers.. you have to price yourself into the market, be competitive in products, services, and cost (working to keep what you have) and all the while working to attract more people to your services ...

The "attract more" Dish doesn't really have a problem with ... its the keep them through value & service where they seem to fail ...

then why is D growing nicely?

E quit being concernewd with churn, but every churned sub costs them a grand, and worse is the shrinkage.

E appeared to go after other revenue streams to bolster profits like canceling dealers, saving residual payments

I think it is a bit unfortunate when someone looks forward to numbers like these, and isn't financially invested in the company. I think it is even worse when someone would gain joy if the numbers dropped. I mean seriously, looking at the quarterly numbers to get all warm and fuzzy? You need another hobby.

Or the 500 booted were constantely late on payments, subscribing to minimum packages and trying to get everything they could out of Dish, and badmouthing Dish all the time? There are all sorts of customers.

Well the infrastructure to provide service, uplinks, backhauls, satellites, etc etc is basically the same. the only added expense is CSR time.

with the fixed costs so high the typical idea is the morecustomers the better. The numbers will be of interest.

If you look at the growth till the bean*******s went profit first E should of had near 15 million subs by now.

The competition in FIOS served areas is brutal, and the comcast triple play saves serious bucks:)

I hung a fax on the phone line that gets little use, but its cheaper to have phone too.

what's a "fax"?

Locally the comcast triple play teamed with a TIVO has saved me big bucks

For bragging about it, you didn't run to D...

It is no secret that people jump to the next best offer every year or two to save some cash. Not everyone can get the kind of deal you did, and to others- picture quality really matters.

Well no one knows who has stock in E, and besides I have been involved in the industry for over 15 years..

Anyhow most people slow down to look at car crashes, dont you?
