Conflicting information from two Chat support specialists

I saved my chat transcripts (thankfully) and one thing that always irritates me about various companies where you have contract periods like cell phones, satellite providers, etc. is that they often don't give you a way of looking up your current contract status. Instead you must call in and ask someone to look it up for you and they verbally tell you what the contract period is on your account.
I never liked this because I don't always trust what someone tells me verbally and would prefer things to be in writing.

Well, sadly, I now have yet another example of how my paranoia is justified.
Talking to two different chat support specialists, I got two different answers about my contract period.

Back on August 26, 2010 I was told that my contract would end on 5/14/2011

Then later, on February 6, 2011, I asked another support person and this time they told me I was not under contract!

Now I forgot about the previous one, so I didn't ask him what happened to the 5/14 expiration date at the time but I just found in my emails the chat transcripts from the previous chat... it really scares me that your contract expiry date can change like that. I am puzzled and not happy that I'm getting wrong information and the thing is, who is right? The person I chatted with back in August? or the more recent one? Do I chat with a 3rd person and assume majority rules? Do I keep going and take best out of 10?

That is poor service for sure.Did you do any kind of upgrade? If so you should have signed some type of contract if an installer came out.If you just got an upgraded receiver through the mail then one could assume that the new contract would start upon activation of the receiver. In that case you should have some type of email correspondence to give you a rough estimate of the contract.

I know this does not really solve your legitimate beef about differing answers from different CSR, but if I were really wanting an solid answer, I would PM one of the Dish IRT members on this forum. They will give you a reliable and correct answer.
