I think I've tried just about everything with Arcade. I'm hoping the next s/w release does the trick.
People shouldn't ensconce their equipment in home entertainment ovens with ambient temperatures in the eighties and nineties, but they do it anyway. Go figure.
I don't disagree there. It should be common sense, but it doesn't always seem to be. My point was that the internal fan in the receiver should be able to keep the device cool and stable under reasonable conditions. Sure, if you plan on stuffing the receiver in an entertainment center, you should employ a fan for that situation, but even then it makes more logical sense to have the fan blowing in cooler air through the entertainment center rather than attaching a fan directly to the receiver itself.
That post is pretty old as there have been about 8 software releases since then, and for me the MENU - MENU trick stopped working since L667.
Well, yesterday it was acting slow again but I'll see today and next day, etc, etc. I really found the coincidence odd that AS SOON AS I USED the new remote, it acted better. I know the issue seems to come and go, but this wasn't a case of it was working normal that day, then the remote died... I really thought the remote's button 'sensors' could be wearing out. The slowness everyone describes involves the guide, right ? I'll bet the 'guide' button is one of the most commonly used buttons too. Of course, that doesn't explain why it seems to work okay again later.

Everything's been tried, it's a software issue. I'm pretty sure it's not a remote issue either, as the slowness that is experienced on the remote can also be experienced using the front panel buttons.
Changing the remote address only helps for a short period of time.
My theory is that it's an issue with certain tasks taking up too many resources at times thus clogging certain bottlenecks in the receiver. e.g. CPU, RAM, Hard Drive.

How does "pressing the MENU button twice (brings up the system info screen) then pressing cancel until I'm back to TV, fixes the slow guide issue" solve those bottlenecks ?
I have NEVER had a slow guide on my 722K. However, I have only ever used a Harmony remote with it.
It could have caused whatever process that was being idiotic to either go into an idle state or close. Hell if I know, it doesn't even work anymore. My point is that there doesn't seem to be any correlation with what remote you use, or whether or not you even use the remote.
My 722k's don't slow down too often anymore since L668. Wish I could figure out what triggers the slowdowns... How many timers/scheduled events do you have?

The remote has nothing to do with the problem as the buttons on the box itself are no faster.
The amount of timers/scheduled events are not the problem either. ( My box was slow with zero timers and no recorded or scheduled events)
With the huge amount of views that this one thread has there are a lot of lurkers waiting for a fix to come along.
Plus I can only imagine the people out there that are just casual users that just put up with the problem and never seek out a forum.

Sooo what are your results with L685 software? I bet there won't be much of a difference for very long. It sounds like Arcade's 722K is having some pretty bad grounding issues. The reason it starts to slow down like clockwork is because you are getting a build up of static interference in the box. Has a technician come out to rewire from the antenna to the receiver? If your grounding issue is caused by the cable, you should disconnect the cable from the separator on the back whenever it is having the issue. Connect the cable back see if your still having the issue. Hall's remote issue was cause by IR interference and that's why his UHF remote resolved his issue instantly. Whenever I rewired mine, it is the most responsive piece of equipment ever. Also problem returned whenever I got this glass stand for my LCD, put a piece of cloth to block the IR from the TV reflecting into the DVR, and that worked like a charm. Hope this sheds a little bit of light on the issue.

I know Arcade is reporting that everything has been working smoothly. Last report from him was a couple weeks after the s/w upgrade, so I'm assuming all is well. If not, please let me know.

Did Engineering report that the slow guide issue was addressed in that s/w update ?
