Need to update the tailgate setup from western arc (have used a 1000.2 for the past few years) to eastern arc. I haven't kept up, what dishes work for eastern arc? Is it only the dish 1000.4?

The "official" dish for eastern arc is the 1000.4 but if you don't need 77, I've heard that some people just use a Dish 500 to get 61.5 and 72.7 only since that's where pretty much all the programming is at. However, if you need 77 for locals, I'd just stick with the 1000.4.

I don't need 77 but how does the 500 work with the different spreads on the satellites. Do you have to modify the lnbf somehow?

Intersting, OK. I think I still have a 500 that I can aim then. I'm not sure where I put it in the move. I will give it a shot tonight. If a 500 would work, would a 1000.2 work (getting only 61.5 and 72.7)? Seems to reason that it would, but not sure.

I'd try it using the 119/129 LNBs, because they're a little closer to the 61.5/72.7 spacing than is 110/119.

Well I tried with both the 500 and the 1000.2. I easily picked up 1 satellite (either 61.5 or 72.7) but could not get the spacing to work out for me on either dish to get an adequate signal on the other bird at the same time. Gave up and ordered a 1000.4. Oh well. Stinks that I can't use my dish cover that a random dish guy gave me for my 1000.2 when I was tailgating a few years ago.

Sounds like your skew isn't correct.

I don't disagree with you, but I could get a slight signal, just nothing that I'd be comfortable with for a whole game day as clouds roll through. Wasn't worth it to me to potentially have issue. I'll just use the dish that is actually designed for this and be done with it. Got it on Ebay for $65 shipped

SO I currenlty have 2 dishes for WA, one to 110/119 and the other for 129. My 119 is getting weak becasue of tress and I can save a few hundred $$$ byt not cutting down some tress and have dish point me to EA. I hear all the potential issues witha single dish 1000.4 for EA, can I just have them re-aim my current 2 dishes to the EA sats? If so what is best combo, 61.5 then the other 2 on the other dish?

I meant 61.5 for one dish and 72.5 and 77 for the other, I am in EA area so just want to see if I can use 2 dishes?

You might have a little problem with that setup a dish 500 is designed for 110 & 119 they are 9 degrees apart. 72.7 and 77 are only 4.3 degrees apart just under half the separation the dish is designed for. You have a better chance at 72.7 and 61.5 on a single dish 500 that is only 11.2 degrees of separation closer but still not at design specs.

Thanks! I guess I am nervouse about all the complaints of 1000.4 and rain fade. With all the rain this year I am twitchy about Dish lately anyway with all the rain fad eI had to deal with.

So then another option woudl be 3 dishes, one to each sat? I gather Dish is not going to do that directly I would be on my own arranging that?

What is the secret of getting RAIN all we can get is 100 degree temps. rain fade is not a problem here.

Thanks! So the real question is, is 2 dish (1 for 61.5 and 72.7 the other for 77) a better setup to prevent rain fade than a single 1000.4?

YES 7 NO If you have trees or other obstructions to signals being able to locate dishes in multiple locations could increase signal it could also allow use of larger dishes to capture more signal. Colocating 2 dish 500s will probably be no better than a correctly aimed 1000.4. Remember the 1000.4 is optomized for reception of the Eastern Arc, the 500 used for 61.5 & 72.7 is not optimized it is compromised by 11 degree separation instead of 9.
