dothan al
i have order the am 21 to use for otr .is this a good move ?is doe the am21 bring in otr in good?

The AM21 works pretty good despite its flaws. If you have locals that are in HD but Directv doesnt carry them it works great. Really good if you're a "mover" and you can record the subchannels that Directv doesnt carry

the drawbacks
-you still have only 2 tuners to utilize. It doesnt add any
-you cant scan for channels. You plug in a zip and it loads **most** of the stations in the market. Low powered stations are few and far between unless its a big network affiliate
-guide info is updated by Tribune so it may not be 100% right

You can plug in 2 zip codes if you are in a neighboring area to get those locals in the guide.

If you can get satisfactory reception with a conventional television, the AM21 should be fine.

Dothan stations are scattered all over everywhere so OTA reception may be iffy without some careful antenna design.

not that I'm going to argue but why add the AM21?
Directv carries all the locals from Dothan (including CW & My subchannels). The NBC is from NY because they dont carry Panama City locals yet

I ordered two of them a month or so ago, and I love them, I get at least 5 local stations I didn't get before, plus I still get my locals to watch when there's a storm down here in South Florida.

I am in the same boat. I am in Memphis but I use the AM21 for my locals because I "moved" to Nashville.

I have two Am21 OTA receivers, and I am very pleased with them.
As I live in Maryland (between Washington DC and Baltimore, I only
receive the Washington DC channels from Directv, with the AM21,
I am now able to receive many Baltimore stations that were not
available to myself (which is great for football season as it many
times the Baltimore stations show totally different games then the
Washington stations).

The biggest issue as pointed out above is it's lack of scanning ability to pick up all sub channels. If DirecTV hasn't programmed it to look for them, you don't get them. We have 3 here in St. Louis, a couple of which have been live for almost a year, that are still not showing up.

I've received mixed opinion as to whether or not they'll automatically be added if DirecTV programs them in or not, or if we need to rerun the setup process.

i'm hoping to get wsfa out of montgomery.they cover our state news here in alabama better.wtvy show a lot of the florida news.

Why don't you just "move" to the Montgomery DMA, and use the AM21 to get your Dothan/Panama City locals. Just find an address in a county that is in the Montgomery DMA and call DirecTv and tell them you "moved" your service address to there. Tell them to leave your billing address the same.
I "moved" to an address in the Atlanta DMA, and get my Birmingham locals from my antenna.

i got the am 21 and it get wafadt not wsfa hd.

WSFA-DT is the same thing. There is no "WSFA-HD". The main feed of the channel is the same. The programming you want is carried on Directv. If you can pull in that station OTA, then good, you are set. I was just giving you a suggestion as to how to get the station.

i did thank a lot for all the help.satellite guy is the place to get help.

good point. I did that too. I had "moved" to the Duluth, MN DMA and used the am21 for Minneapolis. Then I got HD and they removed my 119 access (and Duluth locals) :(

the last two morning i had to do antenna setup on the am21 is this normal?
