I still have 0552 on my HR24-200 but I did grab 0559 on my H24-200 (bedroom) since it was real late CE and I was lying in bed anyway.
On 0552 on the HR24-200 there is no YouTube or MediaShare.
On 0559 did YouTube come back? I see MediaShare is back on my H24. It froze though when looking up pictures.
I love the new look and the speed. Just a few tweaks:
1- I would love an option to display more channels and time in the full screen guide. Default setting should be what it looks like now (it's an easier transition from the previous SDUI). However I would set it to something like 8 channels by 2 1/2 hours. An example of text size can be seen in a VOD screen. I believe at most they show 9 rows at a time, so you can see it is physically possible (screen real-estate wise) to fit more data on the screen.
2- I would like an option for the blue button mini-guide to display more than 1 channel. I'd set mine to 2 or 3 if it were available. When I had Comcast, I set my mini-guide to 3 rows.
3- Transport bar looks great, but the gradient transparency background needs to be pushed down a bit and made a little more transparent.
4- How about a guide option for full screen listings (turn off spoiler window). Maybe you could get 11 or 12 channels on the screen at one time. Put it on a color button to toggle (like blue button?)
5- I'd like to see screen transitions. Right now it takes a second or more to get into the guide or menu. Make it fade in or animate the video into the spoiler window. An animated transition buys time making the end user feel that they actually hit the button and the unit is doing something, while the unit is loading the next screen behind the transition effect. I'd also like to see TVApps 'slide in' from the top right, or the channel banner quickly slide down from the top. I guess I'm just used to using an iPhone and iPad and take these UI polishes for granted.
6- TVApps and Game Lounge are not yet updated with the crisp graphics and fonts. Hopefully there is enough memory in the box to upgrade all of that as well.
7- Mike White mentioned Pandora in one of the quarterly earnings call. I hope TVApps framework is updated to do more than just harvest compressed PNG's from webservers. An actual API that allows interaction with audio, display animation and inputs. Maybe Pandora will use this new API. Hopefully it is open so other developers can create better apps... like Slacker, Last.fm, Spotify, SiriusXM, Facebook, Twitter, Yellow Pages, order pizza delivery from the remote, news headlines, etc.
8- It would be nice if the software detected rain fade and prompted you if you want to switch to the SD channel or wait out the signal loss on the HD channel. This is helpful especially if you have SD Duplicates hidden.
9- Perhaps a customizable UI option where you can add a slight color tint to the dark graphics. Like in Windows Vista/7 when you can add a color tint to the glass. Red, green, blue, purple, default black, etc... Make it a very light tint to not take away from the branding or make it an eyesore.
10- Instant streaming VOD. If the system detects you have a fast enough internet connection, do adaptive streaming VOD. This would allow systems without hard drives the ability to get VOD (like the H24 for example). Also if you have a full hard drive on a DVR, you wouldn't need to download anything. Plus a one click option rather than queuing up the program and exiting to the DVR list. Keep downloading an option though, but maybe give MRV clients the ability to queue up downloads to the DVR. An example of this working in the real world is the Nintendo Wii. It has no hard drive, but yet it can instant stream from Netflix.
11- Speaking of playlist, I would like to see a shortcut to Manage Recordings. Sometimes I like to look at the ToDo list to see what's on new this week, or to ensure things are setup for recording. I'd also like if the iPad app could harvest and manipulate this data as well. Perhaps a double press of LIST, or once in the playlist a color button push, or maybe a press and hold LIST. Now that the menu is full screen, it feels like more work to navigate to the manage recordings screen. I know you can press and hold INFO to get to the main settings, or you can double press GUIDE to see a category filter selection for the guide. So why not add something like that to the LIST button?
