could someone point out the pros and cons of a 922 please?

One con is the four dollar fee which i guess when you can get a 722 and sling at no monthly cost.

Many have said hey like the UI

The $200 additional upfront cost is also a con. I don't have one so I can't talk about any pros.

Cons: $4 fee that gets you nothing that a 722 with Sling Adapter does..
The Sling works sometimes as the damn DISH Remote Access is down when you want to watch TV.
There is no DISH Interactive
There is no Blockbuster Movie Pass support (yet)
And did I mention it costs you $4 more a month?

They are supposedly going to be free starting Oct. 1 for "A" customers...whoever they are.

That's free for Plan A customers when they upgrade. I believe new customers still need to pay the upfront $200.

Pros for me are:
-the GUI
-larger hard drive
-I enjoy having sling built in
-the remotes do not work off of addresses, they work like a Wii remote
-TV1 remote works just like the TV2 remote, it can work from any room, it's not IR
-the remotes beep so you can find them when lost

The cons are already know by most and have been listed by others.

These 2 are huge for me. Watching the OTA channels in the 2nd room bedroom and being able to control them with the TV1 remote would be nice. Also, I can't count how many times I've asked the wife and daughter, "where did you put the remote?"

Can you elaborate on the GUI? Is it faster than the 6xx/7xx GUI? More feature-rich? Such as?

Ive been giving Dish some thought and I would like to know how many hrs of HD can be recorded onto a 922? My D* receivers have 500gig hdd's and I can store 100 hrs of HD, so im going to assume a 922 can do double that amount with a 1tb drive?

It actually takes advantage of the extra screen space that an HD 16x9 gives you over an SD or blown up 4x3 screen. You can play with the options to make the old UI show more channels, but it usually means the titles of shows are cut short. There are nice channel logos next to each channel number in the guide. Faster? Kinda, but not by much. Overall it's just a more modern and slick look.

Both are fast. 922 also has Google Revue integration. Not worth $4/month IMO. 722 can also show a nice 3 hr x 7 channel 16x9 guide just fine.

You can't control TV2 with the TV1 remote without reprogramming it. So that's not a good idea. If you have trouble keeping with remotes, just get several.

Who suggested you could? If you are referring to my post, then I believe I didn't explain myself well...

I just like about everything with the 922. I like the way it looks and works. I have close to 400 recordings on the 922 and over 30 more on my external hard drive. It's just a sweet machine.

Probably a little more than your current DVRs. Like the DIRECTV HR2x DVRs, there's a pretty substantial set-aside for on demand programming except it is much larger on the ViP922. As I recall, DISH was talking about preloading up to 25 movies at once.

Just confirmed that the 922 will be available to me on both my accounts with a new 2 year commitment.....this customer will jump on it and believe me I am not interested in waiting for a rebate on an add-on sling adapter when I can get it built in on this deal. Both of my accounts in separate states have one 722 and one 211.....now I will have a 722 and 922 at these locations with sling adapter capability to see locals from both, PIP in all locations, etc. ,etc.....works for me!
