So, I get this email:

[h=1]DISH PLATINUM IS NOW BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE PASS[/h]DISH Network is constantly seeking to improve your service and is pleased to announce that your DISH Platinum subscription has been updated to Blockbuster Movie Pass at no additional cost. From movies to TV shows to video games, Blockbuster Movie Pass is the most robust movie library available. Stream thousands of titles to your TV or PC, get over 100,000 DVDs by mail and enjoy unlimited in-store exchanges*. You will continue to have access to over 20 awesome channels jam-packed with first-run movies, sports, music and more!
*In-store exchanges require a Blockbuster Movie Pass disc and envelope. When in-store exchange rental is returned to store, the next title in your Blockbuster Movie Pass queue will be sent to you by mail.

Now, at no additional cost...does that not mean FREE? But from every thread I've read here, it's $10/mo for BB video's by mail, or somewhere in the fine print does it say "trial period"? Can't register without notification of a CHARGE... and why when I cruise online, some show "unlocked"

Why isn't free free?

It is no additional cost. Platinum was converted to BBMP and you get additional features for free. You're still paying the $10 you were paying for Platinum (now BBMP). It just includes more things for no additional cost. So yes, they through in discs by mail for free.

lets see

Platinum was $10 unless you were one of the few who on 2/1 got it free (if I remember right everyone got Starz free for a year. If you has Starz already you got Encore free. If you had both you got platinum free)
Now BB Movie pass is.....wait for it......$10 a month

so yep the BB part is free......as long as you already had Platinum. If you add it later (BB Movie Pass) then its $10 a month

DISH Platinum included 20 channels for $10 per month. Now with the Blockbuster Movie Pass you still have access to the same 20 channels in addition to Blockbuster discs by mail, and streaming content through Dishonline.com as well as the ViP612/622/722/722k receiver (with an internet connection of at least 1.5MBPS for SD and 3MBPS for HD streaming) all for the same $10 per month.

Is it true that in month 4 with Blockbuster, it will be $11.99 extra?

According to Directv's website at: DIRECTV vs. DISH Network

"They also don't tell you their price freeze doesn't apply to their new Blockbuster service they push on new customers—in month four you’ll be charged an additional $11.99 each month for that service. And their price freeze applies only to limited packages. The last time DISH "froze" their prices, packages with standard-definition service increased by 7% and up to 25% on TurboHD."

For starters maybe your getting mixed up with the free HD for life. That means any channel in your package becomes available in HD its yours free. The Dish Platinum was always an extra $10 per month for 20 HD only mainly commercial free movies. They did a nice thing by changing Dish Platinum to BBMP without an extra charge and added the on demand access (With internet connection) through your HD DVR, online access (dishonline.com) and 1 disc at a time mailed to you (You can make exchanges in local BB store)(can be Blue ray, DVD or video games for your consoles) For New customers this is given free for the first year I believe. Now the price increase to $11.99 would be a rumor by Dish competition knowing a rumor like that during the whole netflix deal would work people up. Look when they say Dish charges $17 per month for each box, but they don't tell you it controls 2 tv's...

DTV is stating the $11.99 fee in month 4 like its a known fact.

If its not true, then DTV could be facing a lawsuit for publishing a malicious falsehood.

If it is true, then lots of Dish customers are going to be upset.

Blockbuser Movie Pass is only $10 per month with 1 disc and $5 per month extra for the additional discs up to 3 discs total. The $11.99 that is being refered to is from the Blockbuster by mail service that is available through Blockbuster.

DTV makes it sound like its going to cost an additional $11.99 for BB Movie Pass (through Dish). If I was a Dish lawyer, I'd demand they remove the deceptive statement.

Wait...

I am currently getting the Dish Platinum package free for a year, but it doesn't look like that automatically converted to the Blockbuster thing. Is that correct? If I wanted to sign up for BB would I have to begin paying for it now?

Ok. Thanks. I don't really care about paying for it now, but wanted to at least try it out if it was included while I was getting Platinum for free. Of course, I've really come to like the channels in the platinum package (Velocity, especially) so will begin paying for it when my free year runs out. At that point, I guess I'll start taking advantage of the Blockbuster disc by mail thing.
