Your Thoughts on an 18 game NFL Schedule?

I'd be surprised if as many vendors are open for preseason games to service smaller crowds.

Certainly debatable. If a team is out of the playoff hunt no chance whatsoever the last few weeks of the regular season home games would most likely be non sellout.Add to that 2 more games blacked out on local tv.Fwiw the majority of players are strongly opposed to the idea. It's the owners that want to push it simply for more revenue.

In 4 pre-season games your starters play about the equivalent of 4 or 5 quarters. If you eliminate 2 games, they're still going to play the same amount but in fewer games. This would hurt the development of young players since they would get almost no game time.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens because it means more money for the league and owners and also the players, but I'm not in favor of it.

Obviously, its a money issue but what about the fact that fans have to pay reg. season ticket prices for preseason games. I dont think thats fair. If the league wants to try something different, dare I say, lower the ticket prices for any extra games. I know that will be snickered by some but if you want incentive for them to add 2 games, theres one right there. I think if you think outside the box I think players, coaches, fans etc. will like adding 2 extra games.

Well, I totally disagree, but that's what makes the world wonderful.

With the bye week, the logistics of most of the trips can we worked out. Not sure about going to Rio or Tokyo (Sydney would be nice too!), but most of the trips are easily doable.

As much of a multi-billion dollar industry the NFL is, I'm surprised at how much international money they leave on the table. When we were in Italy, France, Spain and Croatia a few years ago for three weeks, I think I saw a grand total of one person wearing an NFL shirt...a Steeler uniform in Rome. Probably some dude from Pittsburgh.

You see Yankee hats and shirts a LOT, some Red Sox and Dodgers too, and a little NBA stuff. But almost nothing from the biggest American sport by far.

The NFL is missing out on an incredible amount of potential overseas revenue, and bringing more games to London, Paris, etc., would get American football back into the consciousness over there.

No, football will never replace soccer in the rest of the world. But that doesn't mean the NFL should avoid such a huge market completely.

Sandra

You say that till your team has to have the LONG flight both ways to play a potential big game, or meaningless game and you end up losing that and the next week because of the difference in travel.

I like the idea of having nfl games at college stadiums but I think the games should stay in the US. As far as Presidents Day being a day off, dont schools or at least some schools have that day off? I mean people call in sick anyway the day after the Super Bowl, so what would be the difference?

Were talking about Adults .. and not all adults can just call in and take the day off with out consequences, companies aren't stupid.

I completely disagree.
Philly Eagles stadium holds close to 70k with standing room and the season always sells out.
Make it a neutral site game that's against a division rival (NY, DAL) and you could easily fill 100k seats.

The new cowboys stadium seats 80k and expands to over 110k with standing room.

While other NFL teams have a hard time selling out a game that has Playoff implications.

Edit:
I had not realized that the NFL was avg. about 65,000 per game.

I know Jimbo but how many companies know if your sick or not? I mean if you call in sick and say you have the flu or my car has a flat tire or something, the companies knows 9 times out of 10 that your lying Your either too tired or too hung over to come to work. Or you could actually have the flu or have a flat tire, so if your a company how do you know if the person is telling the truth?Dont companies have vacation days, anyway?

Except the object here is to make MORE money, not the same over two more games.

Money is going to be made no matter what. Look at the colleges. Look how much money they make from the bowls. Its not going to stop anytime soon.

Vacation days , YUP, but my company only allows so many people off per day, something like 8 per day, thats it ....
Hell theres 8 football fans in my crew alone.

Hardly? You said there is a concussion every play. Please explain, or do you not realize a concussion is a medical diagnosis, and is not defined as simply '2 helmets touching' ?

What, do you think that an O lineman and a D lineman give one another LOVE Taps when running thier plays ?
