There has been some debate as to whether or not a standard 11.7.-12.2 will work with Sky Mexico.
Brian if you are reading this, maybe you or someone else can explain it it more.
I noted in Lynsat sky at 58deg.. Transponders that are active are from 11860 to 12180. Would these
transponders fall in the frequencies of a Standard Linear Lnbf which you know is 11.7 to 12.2

While the SKY transponders are within the range of a Standard type LNBF, they are not compatible with the SKY receivers. From what I understand, SKY receivers are configured for Universal type LNBFs. I don't believe that SKY receivers can be configured for Standard type LNBFs.

Are the Invacom lnbfs Universal? Do you carry universal? What markings would the Universal have on them?
Do not want to buy the wrong one. Anyone here bought a universal for sky, and from which dealer? Thanks!
Brian thanks for your explanation.

The only Invacom's that are Standard type are the QPF-031 or QPH-031.

Most Universal type LNBFs sold in North America have LO frequencies of 9750/10600 and will be compatible with SKY receivers. It really would be quite difficult to buy a wrong Universal type LNBF from a US based reseller.

My Parents have Sky since it was launched in the late 90s and Ive replaced their LNB 3 times since. Ive used Universal and Standard LNBs without any problems. Last replacement was in 2009 and used a 10750 one. Seems to be working fine since they havent called me to complaint.

Interesting..... Maybe the receivers have incorporated a test routine in the last few years to allow automatic LO detection. All of the SKY Mexico installers that buy our 1.2m use the SKY Mexico LNBFs and indicate that they can't use Standard types. Guess that this it isn't the first time installers didn't know what they were talking about...... LOL!!!!

Brian have you seen one of your 90cm working in Northern Ca, like Modesto or bay area. I know you recommend 1.2, but some landlords in this area
will not allow nothing bigger than 1meter, as per law.

Some of the installers swear by the 90's, but mention that a few transponders are weak. Other installers are only buying 1.2m and will not install a 90cm.

I think that some customers are accepting of a few missing channels (especially in heavy cloud cover), while others expect the full service without skipping a beat.

We are in an interesting area for the SKY footprint. An hour North of Sacramento they must use a 1.8m for reliable reception. Drastic drop off!

I´m in Mexico. Although I have never subscribed to sky nor do I install it for a living, I have aimed a dish at their sat a lot of times for reference, training or whatever. I have been able to scan all their transponders although all I can see is the promo channels. This I have done over the span of 4 or so years at different times and all the time using their own 30" dishes and the universal lnb supplied by them. A few times I have gotten a hold of standard lnbs and remember have tried them on 58w. I have never seen any difference as to any transponders not being scanned in. Unless something has changed in the last year or so, I wouldn´t think you could not use a standard lnb. Check the footprint, cause it´s essentially beamed at Mexico I think.

Universal lnb are what is needed. If you are using a new account with boxes that look like D-12 DTV boxes accounts and boxes are locked to a single LNB to insure no account stacking . Rarely they will unlock the boxes if more then one on account but its a crap shoot and best not to say any thing about usa.

Older boxes of existing accounts and other methods of getting sky mex will work with any stock Universal lnb

In New Orleans, I catch a bit of Sky Mexico's signal on my 90CM dishes with Invacom QPH-031 standard LNBFs. There are a few open promo/banner channels. Reception is certainly not reliable, and of course I'm not using a Sky receiver.

I was intrigued about why Sky Mexico would require a universal LNB, I received the attached photos from someone who has a Sky Mexico installation in Mexico City and you will see it uses a Standard LNB.

Maybe what Bryan said Universal was used in the past regarding of the old receivers and the installers does not whats going on..lol.. and still requiring Universal than standard..
I have used Standard set on 10750 and I can get Low frequencies signals like Hd in Fta receivers..To cascade your set up I prefer to use LNB Standard
