First off, I have been getting spammed by Viacom properties for the past year or so. I'll unsubscribe from their mailing lists, which will stop it for a while, but then the messages will start up again after a few weeks. This started shortly after I subscribed to DirecTV. It could be coincidence, but I was wondering if any other DirecTV subs had the same issue.

Also, it appears there are now commercials that 30-second-skip will not fast forward through. I have to use the traditional FF to bypass these commercials. Is anyone else seeing that?

I hate to rant because my experience with DirecTV has been pretty good over all, excluding the price anyway, but these minor annoyances are starting to get to me. It doesn't really matter since I am planning to go OTA, but I though these were worth mentioning.

That sounds odd from the way you describe it, you shouldn't be getting spam as I do believe we don't share your e-mail information with other companies unless there was an option about letting us share it with partners that maybe you forgot to uncheck.

As far as the commercial thing I haven't heard anything about that but who knows, when I work tomorrow I may see a notice for it.

I really haven't had this issues. what commercials are you specifically referring to?

Diito to the above from Rey; been around since mid/late 90's and don't have anything like you describe; spam or "ad avoidance" via FFW

Last night I was watching Leverage and there were 2 ads. One was for Hardees and the other was for Ford. My wife claims that she ran into the same thing during last week's Greys Anatomy, but she didn't say which commercials.

I'll see if I can check my privacy settings at directv.com.

Thanks,
Ted

I changed my privary setting to opt-out. I don't know if that has anything to do with the viacom emails. It might be a coicidence. Now that I consider it, it could be TimeWarnerCable as well. I am a Road Runner customer.

No, nothing in my TWC account setting to suggest I should be getting any emails from 3rd parties. Weird.

I have Comcast for internet; trust me, they will have something hidden very well in the EULA or similar. Check in the user contact information links; that's where Comcast's is. You can also try the lost art of calling them and telling them you wish to opt out of any and all promos, adverts, internal or 3rd party offers; everything. And document it.

You can also go to their FAQ or knowledge base and search OPT OUT; this stuff must be able to be found by law.

I am not receiving the spam that you are. However, I did notice that I could not skip through some ads prior to the new HDGUI. After I received the new guide that issue went away but now it's back. I can FF through the ones I can't skip.

yeah the "cant skip through some ads" thing is a common issue. I thought that was fixed because I've done CE software and dont have the issue

Usually it was the "inserted" commercials (the local commercials...the ones that start like a second after a commercial started)

I thought it was interesting that it disappeared for a time after I got the new guide but now it's back.

I have a question. Is Pandora part of the HDGUI being released all over or only in a CE? Because I can't find it. Also, YouTube does not Shiw up in my "extras" but does show as an option in a search. :-/

Maybe this question can be moved to the appropriate thread instead of hijacking this one?

Pandora and Youtube are a part of the beta release that is out and can be read about here: DirecTV Cutting Edge (CE) Discussion Forum

The 30 second skip annoyance happened again last night while watching The Daily Show. It was a Papa Johns commercial.
