A tech came this morning to swap a H25 for a HR24. He had to go to a SWM16 as well. Simple right? Nope..he spent 2 and a half hours here and still messed it up.

I already had two RG6 cables running from my central cable point in my house so I figured he would use it. Boy was I wrong! Come to find out he tried to put the 9 tuners on just one side of the SWM16! He couldn't get it to work so he swapped receivers then went up and down in my attic 50 times. I tried to tell him that he had to put a receiver on the other swm port but he just about laughed at me. So I just left him alone.

After he left I went up in the attic and saw he took a 4 way swim splitter and put it on one of the legs on the swm 8 splitter then put the HR24 on the 4 way splitter all by itself. Huh? Then I saw he unhooked my two splitter for my OTA!!!! I then noticed he unhooked the OTA feed from my TV!!! What!?

Needless to say someone is coming back today.

He did. The problem is he ran one wire from the SWM16 to everything else.

I'm confused, you only need 1 from the SWM 16 to each receiver. What did I miss?

See if you can figure out the problem in this picture.

This line goes to an 8 way splitter which has a 4 way cascaded off of it. Don't ask me why they put two splitters 2 foot from each other. Equipment is HR34, HR24, H25, H25 and broadband deca.

I just had a similar situation. Upgraded one H25 to an HR24 in a system with 3 H25's and one HR34. Simple right, add an swm16 and no big deal. The tech couldn't get the swm 16 to work and put the swm 8 back in the system without me knowing about it. He then left with the H25 that was upgraded. System wouldn't correctly, test kept showing not enough tuners. Talked to tech support and they kept telling me I had an swm 16 already installed and I kept telling them that it wasn't. Still had the black swm 8 power inserter that the tech put back in after he couldn't get the system to work.

The kicker is he closed out the work order as the swm 16 installed and the HR24 as an additional receiver. I had to spend 2 hrs with customer support to get the H25 taken off my account and the HR24 shown as a replacement for 4 receivers total. Had another tech come out Wed and he couldn't do anything because the swm16 switches are not stocked on the trucks because they cost so much. He came back Thursday and fixed everything correctly, also moved the power inserter to one of the H25's as he said he has found that it will sometime mess up the MRV if it's on a dvr. The system is now running as advertised and I am very happy with it.

This is exactly why I maintain my own equipment & I love DirecTV because they let me :) Never been 1 idiot tech on my property & I have had DTV since 1996!

I'm sorry your experience has not been a good one digi. I can't believe how something that's done everyday has been complicated so much. Unbelievable. Never good when you know more than the tech does.

Yeah, I agree...kind of. SWM 16's are not installed that often HOWEVER there is NO reason why this moron of a tech didn't call for help. Obviously from a few posts on here that I've read techs need retrained on how this puppies work! But still, I feel for you and everybody else that ends up with a crappy experience because of a tech. Makes us all look bad :(

Lol, not at you. My first swm16 that i installed, which i was never trained how to hook up. I just Googled and found a diagram. It isn't that hard.

Yeah I just stared at it and dreaded the job that it was going in on then when I got to it I stared at the switch and kind of taught myself lol

Hell yeah I am glad. Half a day of issues compared to 2 years of issues with 2 dish 722s. I would do it all again with no issues.

The owner of the company came out and fixed it with no issues. He even offered me part time work for on the weekends for him...ha! No thanks. I enjoy my sat and Sunday off. :) but if I ever need some extra money he told me to hit him up.

I'm going to say prolly not. I'm still trying to figure out why he connected both messenger wires to it? 1messenger and a green ground wire is Directv rule and the lack of drip loops, well drip loops are there sorta but of a tech has to put new connectors on they're running new wires or water is running straight down in to that switch

Someone please explain the proper way to hook up 1 these...........

When they installed my swm16, I had to tell the tech how to do it. He thanked after he was done. :) That's why I love this site, you learn so much.
