722K with OTA Module locking up

ZACH,
That is really good news! Now would you keep us informed and at a minimum tell us when the firmware update which contains the code to fix this is/will be released.
Thanks
Michael

Zach,
Yes I understand that. So just telling us at the time the firmware is released that it is the one we have been waiting for would be helpful. Let's hope it is the next release and that it will be very soon.
I appreciate your work on our behalf!
Michael

Wow, Thanks for the information on the fix. I have close to a 16 page post on dishsupport.,com about all my troubles and other peoples, We (hubby)wants me to switch to direct but I am holding him off..I really think Superbowl Sunday did him in with almost 6 reboots and freezes. Since the first of Dec, 3 receivors laters and all new cabling, dishes, New OTA module etc........Its not us its dish. TY

Did I just read on another post the software update isn't coming out until June? Lord, if that true, I will not ( can't ) hold this man off that long from leaving. We are in Golf season and reboots and freezes will kill him....lol

I am another dishsupport forum 722K poster! Redneck.....I am still having the same problems as you are. I wish I would have saved all my problems since dec from that forum. Now I cant keep track of what happened since day 1. FB dish suppport is NO help at all. Everytime they give me a link to click on I cant......its not a good link. What the heck is going on with Dish? internet sites do not work....

Redneck, it is OK. I have kept copious notes on my (our) problem. If we have to wait until June, DISH should be cutting the bill because it is their software causing the problem not us. They should do the right thing.

This issue has been added to our known product issues list. The temporary fix is to hard reset the receiver. We are working on new software to fix this for good. Thank you to everyone who sent me their account information.

Zach? Does this mean that DISH, finally after four months of phone calls, prviding acount info, three receivers and countless unexpected reboots, admits it has a problem? Is that what you are saying? And we have to endure this situation how much longer? If you can't figure it out, me and the others are frustrated at being given the run around. If you know and update is coming, I am woulkd bet two party hats and a donut that you have some sort of roll out date as well. Please share it.

Thanks Wally. I can't believe I didn't save all that information. I may need you to send it to me one day soon. Lol. Yes, a price adjustment would be nice but I do not see that happening spent a lot of money on an electrician. I didn't need. To tell me our outlets were fine among the million other things we have done and missing 3 days of work so I could be home for the 3 tech visits in January.

If Dish suggested you have an electrician check out your wiring, I would try to push for a programming credit equal to the electrician's bill. They never want to admit they could be the problem, and come up with a lot of unlikely causes. They like to accuse the customer and never the box as the cause of the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to tell us that our entertainment centers are the wrong color. In my case when they tried to pull that BS on me, I could shut them down just by telling them I have 2 722k's both in the same location and same connections and only one of them is affected by the current firmware disease. In my mind about the only things that could really affect the dish receivers electrically would be either a very low voltage or a poor connection at the breaker or the outlet which makes for intermittent shutting off of the current. In either case plugging a floor lamp into the same outlet will give you verification of both these situations.

Sunday like clockwork.......freezes and reboots. . It never misses a Sunday! I actually dread Sunday night TV with the damn rebooting and freezing.

Hahahaha wallyb47 I think our receivers are on the same time schedule. Except I went upstairs to watch and it was frozen and then rebooted, hubby was playing xbox downstairs....He saw me come down to reboot it myself and said............CALL DIRECTV TOMORROW !!!!!!......lol. Yes I was yelling because that is what he did to me.
It is causing major discomfort in my home and getting along with my hubby. I do not think he can wait if the update comes in June.

I am thinking I will.........Its not really a laughing matter at this point. The Nascar race yesterday was just awful, audio was only on for a few minutes at a time. Missed half the race because of poor audio. I am just waiting to lose my fox then I will have to jump the bridge and go to D.

Why don't you try asking for a different model of receiver that doesn't have the disease like a 622 or 211k. Just to get you up until they fix the 722k's. Tell them you want to keep the 722k so you can easily go to it when the new firmware comes out. Tell them there should be no extra charges for the additional receiver as it is only to get you by. Do this with the account specialist/subscriber retention specialist.
Good luck!

All they want to do is send me another mother lovin receiver... I know I do not sound like a moron, nor was I a Bit** on the phone. Subscriber Retention Specialist....Jesse oper#600. said it is a software problem and no date in store for an update. they would need to send me another receiver and a tech come out....COME ON, I may be blonde but I am not stupid... then offered me 5 days off my bill, I said is that all you can do to have me stay? I am tired of losing my recordings from new receivers..... AND no I will not add a external HD.

New operator, Account specialist....Leland R9J said last software update was in Jan 2012.... 722K was said updates usually come out on the 29th. cant send me another receiver 622 or the 211K or the if they do I have to send the 722K back or buy it..hahaha. cant give me a 20 credit per month but give me a 15.00$ want me to get a Hopper,,no way....I told them a hopper is not what I want nor am i looking for it. It doesnt have OTA module, he said the Joey will give me my locals??? I just want my 722K to work the way I pay for it to work. wonder if I didn't pay would it work again? lol nope, I wouldn't have service

They will not do anything for me, I have jumped thru fire on my end. 200.00$ electrician, nothing was wrong, everything is new on my end. I am at a Loss! I do not want another receiver or a tech to come to my house and do the same things the last 3 have done, I said that is a waste of money, mine and yours.

I know I am not stupid, I worked for a computer security dept at a major computer company. I have just about every computer degree out there and they cant figure this one out? No wonder I changed professions and now work with Multiple Handicap children. I have more patience for my kids at school then I do for "normal" people, trying to pull one over on me.

Sorry for your troubles, ippy. Have you tried my work-around (recording OTA instead of watching live)? You just have to make sure you never tune to an OTA channel when channel surfing. I've had zero freezes since I started doing that. It's still inconvenient, but better than constant reboots.

Same Here, since I have avoided live OTA no freezes!
I had another interesting problem with my 722k that I don't know if related. I had a timer going and decided I wanted to stop the recording, the receiver wouldn't let me stop it, no way, kept thinking something else was watching it. So I went on line with Dish Remote Access and deleted it there, worked like a champ. If my receiver freezes again before I reboot I am going on line and see if I can control it there. But no freezes since avoinding live OTA.

Work around?

Why should we be forced to do work-arounds with faulty receiver software. With my viewing habits, I am not sure I can avoid OTA channels. After all, that is why I have the OTA module. I get my so-called "locals" from DC but prefer my local news, weather and some other programs from my OTA pointed towards Charlottesville, which is closer. It is DISH's receiver, installed by their tech and their OTA module. They own it and I lease it. For $80 a month, I expect what I pay for and I am not getting it. I have lost portions of programs being recorded on DVR due to this recurring issue. Do you know how much fun it is to go to your DVR programs and see one program with three segments? Gimme a break. I am getting tired of it and no end in sight.
