Answers to your Hopper Questions

I want to confirm something that I was told on the chat. I used the Dish chat to order my Hopper Joey system. I was told that the technician that does the install would be able to transfer all programs from my 722k to the hopper. Is that correct? TIA for your help!
That is not totally correct. In order to transfer recordings, YOU would first need to archive them to an EHD. Then I suppose, the tech could start the transfer to the Hopper. There is no direct receiver to receiver method.

Like KAB said, you would need to transfer to an EHD before the tech gets there. Even if there were a receiver to receiver transfer method, it would take too long to do while the tech was there. After cleaning up everything unwanted, it was six-eight hours each for our two 722s.

Personally I would do it yourself before they get there. It took me 8 hours to archive/transfer 50 recordings to my EHD. I set mine up right before I went to bed and woke up and it was done.

Instructions are super easy and are located here.

I was excited and ready to experience the new hopper and joey yesterday. Unfortunately the tech wasn't able to complete the installation. The hopper came on fine but the Joey will not connect to hopper. Joey was detecting the hopper as another Joey and will not link to the hopper. !!! Anyone else experienced this?? The tech already tried another Joey but same result. He will come back again today to continue the installation. So I have my fingers crossed.

Another question I have is, if I have PTAT on and also create manual timers for my local channels, will it still use one tuner?

Is the usb port on the Hopper always on? I use it to go out to a hub, then from there to my sling, EHD, and my IR4PS3. Will I still be able to do this?

Ok here is a new question that they have not answered is there a limit of hoppers you are allowed to own then can I lease 2 and buy 2 the nice lady on the phone said I could have one for 99 dollars and second would be 199 but what if I bought two more can I have a total of 4 active at once in my house?

OK- First off, you can only have 2 Hoppers on an account. There are technical reasons for this. In theory, you could have quite a few more Hoppers, but you'd have a large number of coax lines going into your house, and a lot of not-free equipment to do it. I doubt that more than 2 Hoppers will EVER be supported or even allowed for residential accounts.

The prices you were quoted were for the right to LEASE the Hoppers. Purchase is well above $400 apiece, almost $500 IIRC. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

You can go with 2 Hoppers and, I've read here, currently up to 4 Joeys.

Question I just got the Hooper today. Does it takes 24 hours to download On Demend stuff and BBMP App to download the movies?? Like 24 hours? All the Logos for channels are there and it says I'm connected to the internet.

Thanks,
Chris

When you hit the recall button it brings up the last four channels you've been to at the bottom of the screen. You can select anyone of them. You can just hit the recall button twice to go to the last channel or you can turn the feature off all together.

I tested OnDemand on Saturday (installed on Thursday) and didn't have any issues. I didn't try BlockBuster.

Nice. That would have been helpful with all of the simultaneous March Madness games last weekend....

Oh, it was awesome. It worked perfect. I also put my Hopper in split screen and had two games on at once in HD. Then I have a room off the living room with a bar and I can see the TV from the couch. I had a third game on that TV. It was sports heaven. Who says Dish doesn't do sports very well.
