OTA Update?

That thing is so gargantuan compared to every other tuner stick I've seen, I'm surprised it's not at least a dual-tuner tuner stick!

That sucks if only one ota tuner. It looks like a big step backward . We are back to a single ota tuner like the 622/722 receivers. Add to that the hopper integration is not true integration, and you can only switch to what hopper you want to watch, and this is disappointing. Looks like I will stay with the 722k for now or look at the competition if I want true whole house dvr.

And let the apple style brainwashing begin, dish and others here will try to sell you on why you only need one OTA and 3 sat tuners. :)

The team making the decisions like these on the kangaroos needs to be taken out back and beaten.

Digiblur you don't quite get it, you are not the normal customer. You are a heavy duty power user who probably wouldn't be happy if it had nine tuners. :D

At this point in time there is no cry for more tuners from the Dish customers, as I posted in another thread so far only 2% of their hopper customers have a dual hopper setup. (I am sure that will grow)

We are not the normal satellite customer.

I think dish did the correct thing by making it a three tuner system and I like the fact if I need more I can have more. :)

I asked (and made fun of) the size of it. What you have seen is not a prototype it's an actual unit off the production line. I am told it is that big because it has a brand new next generation ota tuner that is the most sensitive tuner available. It's because of this tuner it throws off a lot of heat and that is why it is the size it is.

They could have made it smaller but it would have not been as sensitive. They figured since you plug it in and leave it in the size did not matter much. It is not a portable ota tuner and thus is not designed as such.

Ok. Sounds good on the OTA tuner front. I think I'll only need one, anyway.

Scott,

Any indication whether the OTA tuner plugs into the Hopper, Joey or both? If in the Joey, will you be able to record from it? (I am assuming that an OTA tuner plugged into the Hopper will be recordable like the Vip722 OTA tuner.)

Please, please. I hope you do go to the competition. You will be happier.

OTA tuner sounds good, can't wait! Can i use same rg6 thats now going to hopper for ota? Thats the way my 722 was wired using diplexers. I hope i won't have to run new cable to hopper for OTA? Thanks for any info.

Nope. No "space" left on that coax. Running new coax might not be so hard.

A single OTA tuner is better than none, but some of us with two Hoppers and a roof antenna will have a hard time trying to connect an OTA tuner to each Hopper. I'd much rather have one dual OTA tuner.

For my purposes a single OTA tuner will suffice as long as Hopper sharing is enabled. (My setup has a DP44 switch so I have a second coax running out from one Hopper room for the power inserter; I can easily diplex OTA on that...)

Simple question or not. Hopper has more then one USB port can't you just use two tuners for a double?

i definitely wouldn't expect it. Each hopper may only be able to support one OTA tuner. Just have to wait and see what Dish (or Scott) tells us.

So when I finally make the move, with 2H, I can have 2 OTA tuners. I only want one.

I'm a happy camper.
