DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

If a restaurant had a sign posted that said, "Sorry, we are out of french fries. We will be substituting them with sweet potato fries", one would rightfully assume they would include sweet potato fries in your cheeseburger combo at that time, not at a later date.

It is an assumption based on logic, which is perfectly valid.
Except that is not what Dish said. It was more like "Sorry, we no longer serve french fries. We will replace the french fries with another menu item of similar value." The vagueness of that statement lets the logical assumption to be interpreted either way (they may have an immediate replacement, or they may not).

Excuses Excuse for Dish Fans! All these channels you are losing are in HD and many of us who used to be Dish Subs are now watching and enjoying them from other suppliers.

First it was Voom, Then the Disney/ESPN Disputes. Then the NY Sports Regionals. Now these channels. When are you people gonna wake up and make your voices be heard. Maybe the only way your voices will be heard is if you join us on the "Non-Dish" supposedly dark side of the world; where we get all these channels and more in HD as part of our subscription package.
Amen brother. I left DirecTV for their lack of HD, and plan to go back to cable as soon as AMC goes dark. So that's at least one voice. I've also told every DIRT rep I know. So if they haven't heard my voice yet, they aren't listening. I realize they could care less, but it makes me feel a little better at least. Dish subs (myself included) remind me of the frog in boiling water. Every channel they lose, they say, oh that's not so bad, I didn't watch that channel anyway. But it really adds up, and before you know it, you've lost a heck of a lot of channels and are still paying the same price. Tomorrow it may be a channel you like, then you'll change your tune.

I don't really care who's at fault. All I know is I'm no longer getting the content I signed up for, so it's time to move on.

Although it may not have been the most popular channel or even noticed by some, CNBC World was dropped and had a similar slate about channels already existing like it to watch. I believe CNBC World was a Top 250 channel, too.

Unfortunately, Dish is not the only provider that does this.
I don't think anyone was watching CNBC World in the first place.

So I should drop Dish, because a channel I don't watch (AMC) is pulled and go to Directv, when Directv doesn't have a channel I do watch (BBC America) in HD.
Of course not. But I do watch AMC, and my cable provider has both AMC and BBCA HD, which is where I'm headed. DirecTV has such an abysmal HD lineup, they're not an option. Granted, my cable company sucks in every other regard besides the HD line-up. Their DVR is a joke, their service is more expensive, etc. But content is king. So I'd rather have my content and a crappy DVR than no content and the best DVR in the world. So it really stinks to have to leave. But I have no choice. Imagine losing your favorite channel, and I bet you'd feel the same way.

and that is everyones thought, i was that way too, until theyu drop a channel you watch alot.
in my case the loss of fx put me over the edge. sure they got it back, but i dont like wondering when they are going to pull it again.

everyone has a point that they look back and say "i should have faought sooner then maybe it wouldnt have gone this far"

if you just keep sitting there whul charlie trims things down you will be affected eventually

Cox is the same way. Great picture and great HD lineup but, they're $10 a month more on programming and a little more on equipment, but lord, I can't stand their guide software or equipment. Also I did lose some of my favorites, FX and FSN during football 2 years ago. Being a Big 12 fan, I missed 3 OSU games and 2 OU games, during that dispute, which were a big deal to me. I've just become realistic about what the tv business has become and at this time I'm not going to waste my time jumping from provider to provider for a channel(s). That may change in the near future.

My opinion is things need to be trimmed a lot. Lots of meaningless channels need to go and maybe the remaining ones can then schedule a full day with some decent programming other than repeats of the same show over and over. No I am not calling AMC meaningless either.

i would agree if the drop of channels reflected a drop in price, but that never happens

To those feeling some of us are just being fans of Dish, for me here's the problem with some of what is being posted. When someone says it's their favorite channel, or one they do watch often and don't want to lose it, then say they will have to switch providers, I understand that. I may not switch even over one channel, but I would have to consider it for a couple.

That's not what many of us are actually reacting to. From a post about you will switch, then seeing something about "like thousands others will" or similar.... That's where my reality is different than yours. Not over AMC, based on viewer ratings.
Then I see the list of channels no longer on Dish, and I have to dissect them because the list is being used to make the point it isn't just AMC, but a list of channels so that's why people will leave. So VOOM is on the list. Who carries VOOM? Oh ya, no one. The NY RSN's. No question, one little minor detail - that affects a miniscule amount of subscribers to Dish, even if every subscriber in that DMA wanted those, which they don't. It DOES affect all subscribers in not passing along those costs.
The Disney dispute is litigate, except what are we really talking about? Cartoon channels in SD as well as a couple of ESPN channels in SD, not the main ones. I could be missing a channel that was dropped because of it, I don't remember one. CNBC World? Seriously? You can always find someone who misses any channel, but again my premise is these are not channels people are leaving Dish over. I do think someone already thinking of switching might be put over the edge over AMC and it's channels. But certainly no large amount of viewers.

Yep I have to agree with you mdram.

We seem to lose more and more channels but the price always goes up.

Because as so often is posted, in any business that's not what happens. The price doesn't go up as much is what happens. Thus Dish is currently less than most any provider per month, and yes including all fees...... In affect you are paying less than you would be.

No real message is being sent by switching anyway, as the content [STRIKE]providers[/STRIKE] extortionists will get their $ in the end. The only real message that can be sent to stand up to what the tv business has become, is to cut the cord. It is a hard decision to make, but shouldn't be.

thats an option for some people

but those of us in the sticks would be limited to whatver we can get on an antenna
without the option of high speed internet a cord is really a must

or just dont watch tv

Let's get one thing strait. Most of the Dish subs don't give a damn about the NYC RSNs. That's of no use to me up here in Boston, or to the guys in other areas that aren't NYC or Buffalo.

The only useful ESPN channel not on HD is ESPN U, which Dish never carried. ESPN News is a useless loop of Sportscenter-like programs.

Facebook page disappeared doesn't sound good for the channel. It means they are cutting back in some way. The channel may have an issue and so is cutting cost holding on and trying to pull in more eyes.
BTW to the person that didn't understand why ala carte doesn't work for smaller channels. The ad revenue is based on the number of eyes that is estimated to be on the channel. So if it has a small audience then it doesn't pull in much money from the ads.
Now as far as Them dropping the Sundance channel some one beat me to saying 1st salvo. When you are gambling on something then you have to show some kind of determination. So Charle pulled it to let AMC networks know it is serious.
my personal page Let's Get FEARnet HD Added on Dish Network disappeared not FEARnet's.

True, but how many were paying for Dish or DirecTV to watch MSG or SNYs non pro sport programming. I know that SNY is popping up on cable outlets, but who is really watching.

id guess more then you think. as many cable co's dont carry out of area sports

Even if dish had those rsn's. People wouldn't be able to watch the pro sports on them unless they were in NY. They are blacked out even with multisport.
