Two DVB S2 tuners and some sort of drive sharing got my attention.
But, at what price?
And when will all the features actually work? ;)

Cynextra is the company in Germany that designs them. I think the triplex is about 250 or so and the single tuner version is like 200. I was leaning towards the triplex but they have a new model that is android coming out next month called the Hypercube that looks pretty cool.

I Have the single tuner version and it works very well good blind scan good motor controls had no problems at all with it yet.

IMO, an FTA box should be just an FTA box. If I want multimedia, i'll use my laptop. I rather these companies concentrate on improving boxes (faster scanning, 4:2:2, OTA tuner) rather than overloading them w/ media options which arent necessary.. just my 2 cents.

Cheers, K

I agree. I just want the receiver to share its data onto my LAN.
My dedicated media player will handle it from there. :)

exactly

Sure I would like a new jeep with a set of points and a carburetor but you can't legally get a new one without TPMS and ESC.

The technology is too advanced for them to not add more options nowadays. The industry can easily make an fta receiver the size of a smartphone. My newer s2 receivers have plenty of room for a 2.5 HDD in them with room to spare. With so many streaming channels online why not be able to blind scan in some feeds in one room while watching your favorite stream in another?

I think many (not all)FTA folk who don't sub to anything and have a limited channel selection (and limited budget)wouldn't mind being able to add a lot of streaming channels to their STB. Not everyone has a computer or laptop.(which have been thought to cause male impotence due to wifi signals) So these types of receivers could also have some internet functionality while another family member is using the computer. Not everyone can afford the latest FTA receiver and a tablet and a laptop and a TV sub and a media player etc etc.

AND --- not all of us have true high speed internet.... OR commercial power.... OR land line phone OR ..... wxyz abcde BUT we have open line of sight from horizon to horizon. And we have TRUE FTA. Do we want all that power hungry stuff on our property? Not this family...

So true. There are dozens of devices that feature web apps, including most new TVs. Why duplicate that feature on every device attached to the TV?

On something as specialized as a satellite receiver, I'd like the device to be geared toward performing the task it was designed to perform and to do it well.

ya but not everyone can afford a new tv. Some people still have CRTs. I have 4 flat screens and won't be in the market for a new smart tv until one of mine breaks.

Well you won't have to wait too long for one to break. From my own and ones I've fixed for others about 4 to 5 years and poof. Most of them so far have been those wonderful Chinese capacitors.:D

Meanwhile the 25 year old 27" SONY still keeps on going,I did replace the picture tube, about 10 years ago, with a used one.

Ya Ive been running my 37 lcd for several years and it hasn't malfunctioned yet. My 50 dlp blew a bulb a while back but I don't use it anymore. My 54 Plasma sees very little use.

Here are a couple of pictures. This company has a newer android based model called the Hypercube coming out next month with looks more modern.

Don't get me wrong.
I get my programming from FTA and OTA and I do not have an subscription.
Once in great while I watch a program over the internet.

So if this receiver can receive a program/show/movie over the internet, that would be a bonus for me and there would be no duplication like Tron noted in my case.
My TV is not internet ready, so I can not stream the internet with it.
My desktop computer uses way more power than this receiver would. Which I think that the receiver uses less than 50 watts, whereas my pc uses 450 watts.
I do not have an laptop.

Would I watch more streams over the internet if i would buy this receiver? Most likely NO. FTA and OTA have a lot to offer.
I would not spend this kind of money for a receiver like that at the moment for my use.
Would I like to have a receiver like that. Most likely yes....I would like to check it out what it can do, even though i am not a professional FTA'er , just a regular user of FTA.

Looking at your pictures it says something about spark on the receiver.
As far as I remember the Amiko Alien2 is running some programs on sparks.

The Triplex and the Alien2 are basically the same thing, except the North American version of the Alien2 doesn't include the DVB-T/C tuner and the Triplex runs at 600MHz instead of 450MHz.
