when i was stationed in san diego, it was always strange to watch monday night football at 6pm. that's when it started at 9 on the east coast.

Strange? What would be strange is not being able to watch the game because it doesn't start until after you go to bed.

TV Land is practically becoming another TBS and is coming out with some decent original series. I think the HD feed could be useful.

different strokes for different folks. personally i have no interest in those shows, or channels like style, lifetime, LMN, OWN, MTV, BET and many, many others, but we all like different things. i just hate that tvland quit showing a lot of the old shows. now that i have an OTA antenna up and get metv i have not been to tvland in months.

I have Metv, AntennaTV, and ThisTV. TVLand started airing the shows all weird (9:04-9:27 etc) and chopping them up, basically ruining them, rendering TVLand another Discovery, MTV, Weather Channel, and HLN - CRAP.

Netflix has The Andy Griffith Show in 4:3 hd. Very good pq. Pretty sure tvland will not be showing it in hd. Nonetheless this channel will be a good pickup in hd IMO.

i know, i need to get that station. the retrotv station isn't very good, but does have some stuff on there. my rca antenna will nto get detroit stations, but next spring i'm thinking about putting a big *** antenna in the attic and seeing if i can get antennatv from wadl in detroit.

i'm quite possibly the worlds biggest Andy Griffith fan, so I have the whole series on DVD, but i didn't know netflix had them in HD. I'll have to check that out.

There are approximately 227,016,000 people in the Eastern and Central time zones. There are approximately 67,455,000 people in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. There is no "discrimination" involved. The fact of the matter is there is nearly 3 1/2 times the population for which the east feed is intended. Also, since a substantial, if not majority of HD subscribers have a DVR, it is not as big an issue as it would have been say 10 or 15 years ago.

Just over 75 percent of the nation reside in a state on Eastern or Central time. The other near-25 percent are in a state on Moutain or Pacific Time. (Add to that Alaska and Hawaii.)

Just saw this, with dates (from smatvee.com):

DIRECTV Adding 7 HD Channels by January 31st!

DIRECTV announced today that they are adding 7 more HD channels with the following launch schedule:
January 24[SUP]th[/SUP]:

• TV Land HD
• Investigation Discovery HD
• Lifetime Movie Network HD

January 31[SUP]st[/SUP]:

• Headline News (HLN) HD
• Independent Film Channel (IFC) HD
• Cooking Channel HD
• H2 HD

There were rumors that Encore Action HD would be launching as well but no confirmation yet from DIRECTV.

DirecTV might wait for Starz Network to migrate all the Encore Channels to HD later this year, and then launch all the Encore Theme channels in HD in mass.
