What type of device are you trying to download the app on?

yes i found that out after i deleted old Dish remote app . was looking to put old version on phone that worked thanks

my carrier/phone does not support 2.3 i guess i am S O L

I too have this problem on my Moto Defy 2. Fortunately I didn't delete the old DRA which works fine thank you. Maybe there is a way to suck it out of my phone and send it to you?

i have had it about 1.5 years. Sure wish dish would keep older versions of there Apps out there some where

I bet they don't because of the support it would require. There will always be someone out there with an ”older" phone but where do you draw the line and require something newer? The same thing with Web browsers, I believe they support up to 2 versions prior but I understand that in a phone case, it means you need a new phone. Technology is always moving forward.

That would be awesome if you could do that TheKrell .. THANKS!!! I am so pissed at myself that i deleted old one

The first solution that comes to me is to use Titanium Backup (have to have the phone rooted) which should do the trick. Simply take the backup file it makes for the phone off the SD card and send it to him via the forums or e-mail.

Op:

Another option would be to upgrade to 2.3 or later using a different ROM such as Cyanogenmod. Before I upgraded from my HTC Incredible I was using Cyanogenmod for a long time and I also used a mod that got me all the way up to Jellybean which worked surprisingly well even though the phone was pretty darn old.

There must be a copy out there somewhere. How about all those folks who had to side-load their Kindle Fire?

I think I can do that, but... (1) I have not rooted that phone as yet and (2) how does the OP extract the app from the backup file? Can I just back up a single app?

OK I did this with App Backup and Restore, archiving only the Dish app which I note is v1.4. App Backup doesn't require rooting. Now, my Dish account login credentials better not be archived as well!

By the way, I cranked up Dish (Remote Access) to see if it was still working, and it would only show me live TV this evening. :( Tried a 2nd time after backup and (1) it's still there and (2) still won't show my 722 DVR contents. Claims my receiver is offline, which is nonsense since it will show LiveTV.

Thanks for all sugestions weighing out my options ..i am kind of afraid of rooting dont want to brick phone.. thanks again everyone!!

Just use the browser in your android and click on the link.

I can't get this link to work on my PC. "Server not found" in FF, which isn't quite right since I can do a domain name lookup without issue. Does it work for anybody else?

I think caution is in order. How about the App Backup app I found which does not require a rooted phone?

The App Backup app should work fine as should Titanium Backup, neither backup the profile information for the app into the app backup. That's kept in a separate file. Caution is a good idea when messing with electronics that you don't want to accidentally break. I will say this much however, there has been a lot of progress made on the Android ROM scene so much so that it's dead simple to root and load an alternate ROM on a phone. You have to try extremely hard to actually get a phone to the point where there is absolutely no way to get it working again. I think the worst that ever happened to me was that I loaded a ROM that did not want to boot. I simply booted into the recovery mode that's done as a part of rooting most phones and loaded a known good ROM.
