Here's the Roku 3!

I think it's unfair that Roku 2 XS owners won't be getting the new interface upgrade in April, but all the other less expensive Roku models will.
Here's the email response from Roku on Wednesday.....

However, I like to inform you that the Roku 2 XS player will also get the new interface during the mid of April or by the end of May.

Thank you. Mind if I ask what the "However" was about? Did you ask about the 3 & remote?

Navy, The rep was just rattling on thanking me for using Roku in the line before that. I sent the info in the email I believe before the topic of the Roku 3& remote came up..or before I saw it anyway

Netfix is hyping up super hd https://signup.netflix.com/superhd.

Looks like the new roku will be able to handle it.

C/P:

Roku with 1080p*

*Note: Although some Super HD eligible Roku devices do not currently display the Super HD logo, we continue to provide Super HD video quality for these devices.

Stardust, I thought I read where some ISP's weren't signed up for this...TWC I believe is one. I read an article a few days ago somewhere on it. The Roku can handle it but are the ISP's willing to provide the bandwith and at what cost?
Figuring that cost would be passed on to us too

Isp's have to come on board for this to work. Netflix is saying only a 5Mb/s connection for the required minimum. I'm anxious to see how it plays out myself.

Here's a interesting article on it.........http://arstechnica.com/business/201...s-cry-foul-netflix-requirements-for-super-hd/

That is the report card. Google fiber tops the list but still streaming speed is only 3.35mbit/sec

That's the average streaming speed so customers who were capable of going faster would. Though I would find it hard to believe that Google Fiber customers wouldn't peg the needle every time.

I wonder what is the max rate on most of Netflix HD content is? It could be 3.35 or less, the new network they are building says enhanced HD at 5mbit. I do not see Netflix using adaptive bit rates for every viewer. What I suspect they do is have the content pre compressed to several different bit rates (like .5 - 3.5mbit) and switch the viewer back and forth between the various rates depending on the internet connection status. Now they will have a 5mbit/sec average movie cached at the local servers.

I ordered the new Roku 3 yesterday from the Roku website. Free shipping if you order now.

Question: Now that I will have 2 Roku devices do I add the second to the same Roku account or do I create a new additional Roku account? I would think I would create a new additional Roku account to keep the channel selections separate, but my username (email address) would be the same for both. Or can I switch accounts from the single Roku logon?

Color me unimpressed. No analog,no optical,no ethernet port, and no stand alone dlna.

What good would an optical port do when it can't pass dolby digital plus? Only past through no conversion to standard dolby digital. So again optical port would be useless.
dlna perhaps not but plex and other channels similar make up for the loss of dlna.

Certainly not useless to anyone that has a dolby pro logic receiver!I'll take dolby pro logic or pro logic 2 over stereo all day long.Plus the fact that some of the other streaming providers offer DD,not dd+.

Wow, your right no remote unless you buy it separately. I wonder if I should pick up an XS before they sell out or will they be an obsolete model? btw, I heard an HDMI converter might work with the Roku3 if you have an older tv?

xd has a standard ir remote.Getting a Bluetooth remote is available but extra.

Using same login gives you the same channels. If you want separate channel selection create another account. He's to be a different user name.No you can't from the Roku switch accounts. You would need to remove Roku fromaccount and add it to other account to switch.

Not by much. So far the off chance that one doesn't sub to Netflix they should use toslink connection?

I suppose it's a matter of personal taste. For me the answer is yes.I strongly prefer dolby pro logic or dolby pro logic II,to stereo. If you have a good home theater receiver,it's almost, almost as good as 5.1.Some of these newer receivers do a great job at virtual surrond sound.
