Fees increasing?

Just read at DBSTalk that annual subs are going away effective right now. Guy talked about it and even posted the email/snail mail he got about it.

It really appears that the direction Dish is going is UP these days, as in UP in cost from many segments of the billing! :(

Can you provide a link please? Can't find the thread. Thanks

The problem with saying the $4 fee is for the first Hopper, it leaves the question to someone does that mean an additional $4 for another Hopper, along with the $7 increase. The DVR fee is an account fee, not specifically tied to each Hopper. In reality that $14 if you have no other units is being assesed on that Hopper, but as you add equipment the DVR fee which includes the whole home fee, gets reduced per unit. (Three units = approx $4.65 each)

Meanwhile the per Hopper fee after the first one is most certainly tied to the unit, $14 per unit. In the end, however you slice it the cost is becoming too much, period. Any thought I had of going to the Hopper system is not going to happen. I would want two Hoppers, and I feel I have been priced out of it.

Maybe dish will make the mistake of raising the price up and then coming out saying we've increased prices . Although it does say they can do that in the contract, they have to notify you I believe . I hate doing it but i will gladly play the switching provider game if I have to. These providers need to start waking up and doing anything they can to keep the customer.

While I'm irritated to no end by the increases, I still want to watch what I want to watch! So most likely for all my grumbling, I'll pay the bill and not change much of anything. :(

To put things into perspective, when I complained about the increases to my live in, she just looked at me like 'what the heck are you talking about'. She doesn't watch TV very much, it is a rare thing to see her in front of the TV for more than about 2 hours a week. Took all the fun out of bitching!! :)

This link is current, and allows scrolling to easily compare packages. Does anyone have a similar link, to a package comparison list that doesn't scroll, so you can print it out for easy offline comparison?

The Military Channel isn't on AT200 and below, so I doubt I'm dropping below AT250 unless finances get tighter. And with so much on EHDs, I don't plan on going anywhere. If I have to, I'll drop to AT120 and watch EHD programming like mad, and drop a ViP722. But that programming change would mean the loss of grandfathered no-locals, reducing savings by $5/month. Not sure, but maybe just dropping a ViP722 might mean the loss of that grandfathering (likely saving $12 not $17). We watch some BB@H channels, and use the disc by mail for Stargate. But the protection plan is looking long in the tooth.

Dish Anywhere is a strong draw; probably we'll use it more in the future. But the iPad feature on the Hopper may drive us to a 1H/1J configuration, where our monthly costs would still go up $2. I'm not inclined to a 2 year contract just yet, though. And if I get one of the jobs I'm angling for now, we'll probably still end up with 2 Hoppers ($9 more than we're paying now). Too much up in the air now to make any moves.

And who knows, maybe the announcement will be different than what we expect, one way or another.

Repetitious, I know, but I'm trying to get my options straight in my head.

Perhaps some posts should be broken off into a new Health Care thread.

BTW, some ACA provisions have already taken effect, with perhaps most kicking in 1/1/14 or for plans renewing on or after that date.

I think a "split off" thread sounds great... I'd be happy to share any "inside" information I may have, and I really enjoy hearing about others' opinions on health care. Just not sure how to split off a thread or even if it's appropriate for any sub-category on this forum. But by all means, let me know if someone starts one! (and provide the link, please). :)

That is no less confusing when Dish has 3 different DVR account fees (612/622/722 $7, 922 $10, Hopper $14). Since you soon will always be paying $14 times the number of Hoppers on your account, plus $7 times the number of Joeys, it is no more confusing to say each hopper costs $14 in monthly fees.

The problem is trying to use the same terminology as the bills. What may make more sense to us (granted), will just be confusing as folks try to match it to their bills. Heck, does Dish ever put "Whole Home" on any bill, or just "DVR $14" for Hopper accounts?

My guess would be the Pub or Chit Chat. But for some reason, many avoid the Chit Chat, and not all are Pub Members. Cough, cough, hint, hint. ;)

I wonder how long it will be before they start charging a sling fee after trying to give everybody one or including it in these Hoppers?

I wonder if there will be anymore surprises, other additions to the price increases coming on these hardware fees? There seems to be a twist sometimes, sometimes not as bad but sometimes worse than what we expected. Most likely will be at least as bad as what we are expecting. Last time we saw these hardware increases they gave credits on the account for existing subscribers for like a year and then we saw free Starz for a year too. I am curious what could be up their sleeve this time around.

I agree. I will be more than happy to explain my logic to folks that don't get it. It IS essentially going to be $14 per Hopper and $7 per Joey.

Dish (The Hits just keep coming!) That should be their new slogan.Someone mentioned it the other day,Dish really needs to stop with all the we are cheaper than dtv ads.

Especially now that their AEP is right on par with Direct but with Direct they include the sports pack. I say Dish is cheaper if you get just a plain ol HD receiver and one of the lowest channel packages available.

I think if DISH lowered its equipment fees, they would probably have more customers and more sticky customers which would mean increased revenue overall.
Don't think it would GAIN them new customers at all.... Rest assured, the vast majority of people only look at the monthly package price.

A mod has to do it. You can "Report" the first post that discussed this and ask them to split it and any replies into it's own thread. Worst they can do is ignore it....

The price increase hasn't gone into effect yet, but there will be an increase on the equipment. This is to reflect the costs associated with providing all the features that come with the Hopper. Much like how a regular solo receiver is $7, but a Duo is $14, or a Duo DVR is $17. The increase will only affect the whole-home DVR fee, and the Hopper. Joey's will remain at $7. This takes effect as of May 22nd.

I guess that will be when I become a one provider home finally..
