What is your definition of "A Sport"

I beg to differ on the physical shape. I would bet you wouldn't make 100 miles driving in one of those cars if you aren't in shape. They lift weights and exercise now. Years ago they were actually "stock" cars. There is nothing stock on those cars anymore and they take some strength to turn the wheel now.

I don't know about that bet. MAYBE I would, MAYBE I wouldn't.... But one thing for sure...YOU do not know the shape I am in and 2ndly... that is why I said, IN MY OPINION to begin with.;)

So say, using YOUR logic, Dannica Patrick, that BARELY weighs, I would say 110 lbs... compared to average guy that works out at LA Fitness say 3 times a week...have the SAME trying skill set... could NOT drive a race car?

She could go all night long, those weight lifters most likely couldn't.:D Gotta have stamina to race.

We all know an person must be in prime physical condition to play a sport competitively.

I have. Believe me, it's not easy. I drove one for only eight laps. I can't imagine going for 200.

Or 3-4 hours.

You guys think driving a Stock car (NASCAR) is easy, you think your morning traffic is bad, try driving in thier sweat box for 3 hours in wall to wall traffic only inches from the other guy at 190MPH.

not easy
but they are sitting .......no sport
working in a foundry or bakery not easy too 40 -50 hours a week still ....not a sport

So is part of your definition of a sport that one must be standing?
F1 drivers are routinely subjected to 5.5Gs, NASCAR drivers are subjected to 3 Gs.

How about motocross racers? Do they qualify since they don't routinely sit?

what is not a sport ? golf, bowling,ping-pong,poker,pool table games, video games, motor racing of any kind. must be some running involved save swimmers, wrestlers.
like the red neck said "if you can do it drinking with a cigarette not a sport." always maybe wonder about baseball ?
sex is a sport if more than 1 hour lol

I think you need to have offense and defensive in order to be a sport. Otherwise it's just an athletic activity. Bowling would be a good example. You can't do anything to stop your opponent from throwing a strike!

Not quite true. Due to the fact that there is oil on the lane and part of the skill is developing a "track" on the lane for your ball to move through the oil and hook in the back end means you can also screw up your opponent's "track" by throwing your ball near it pushing oil into their "track". While we don't do that on purpose usually it does play into the game for us. How we throw the ball and where we throw the ball can mess up your opponent.

Also, bowling DOES require athletic ability to be competitive. Usually the guys/gals who can really hook the ball (known as crankers because of how they put revolution on the ball) usually do so by putting a lot of muscle into it. Do a youtube search for Robert Smith PBA and you will see a prime example of this.

"If you can do it while drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette, it's not a sport"
Does this mean that people playing in beer league softball are not playing a sport?
Don't have time to dig for the picture, but I have one of a local league with the batter with a beer in one hand and a bat in the other with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth at the plate just before he hit a two run double with one hand (and more importantly, without spilling a drop). Was he not playing a sport?

Am not reading 14 pages of posts, but to me a "sport" can best be defined as a competition, whether it be physical or mental, againts a someone else, a team or yourself. Therefore it covers: chess, bridge, poker, solitaire, football, basketball, golf, etc
Cheers, K
