I used to have 1 account and move boxes between locations as we traveled between houses.. however I never called DTV and told them ... never was an issue.. however we upgraded our sat at our primary house and it was several months until we took boxes to the other house again (its at the lake).. so our normal house is HD.. we have an HD box and some regular boxes with filters on them.. Now we tried the regular box (like we always did) at the lake using the same normal sat we always had.. but it won't work.. is that b/c we now need an HD sat dish at the lake (just like at the normal house) and a filter on the regular box.. or do we just need filters on the regular box??? thanks in advance. DIRECTV

Try it without the filter at the lake house, since it is an old dish. It should work unless the regular box is a genie clint, which wouldn't work. What model receiver did you take?

Other possibility is a wire damaged or dish blew out of alignment.

WELCOME to Satelliteguys!

Directv hd boxes will work with many different setups. They are however "setup specific" meaning you really need model info & dish type for us to accurately help.

Do you know any of this info?

Repeat satellite setup. More than likely it sounds like you've been switched over to a SWM system. The "filters" are more than likely band stop filters. Repeating satellite setup should fix you up. Hit menu-setup-satellite-repeat satellite setup. Follow the screen prompts. Once you can select the dish type select either 18X20 or 18 round and switch type "multi switch"

:welcome to Satelliteguys mycozmo!

Like stardust3 said, we need the model numbers of the boxes and dish types at both locations if you know them.

Thanks guys! Here is what I was able to figure out... the receiver Im trying to take to the lake (NW TN) is D12-300 (one of the basic Directv receivers, its the only # I could find on it. At home we have the Slim line -35 (svm) dish.. but at the lake I am pretty sure its just the "round" its been there since before we owned the place.. and all of this worked for us for several months. until we upgraded to HD here. We are not trying to take the HD receiver up there. Also we did re-run the set up.. etc. We don't know if it is faulty wire, bad dish, needs filters, needs new sat.. etc. Thanks for your help!!!!

It definitely sounds like a setup issue with the receiver.

Refer back to Hutch's post. Repeating the sat setup in the receiver menu will likely fix it.

My market is an mpeg4 dma. So maybe someone more familiar with that receiver could pipe in.

Assuming the dish at the lake is aligned properly, try resetting the D12 through the menu. Then do the dish setup again.

The switch type of very important. If you didn't manually change it it won't work
