BB@ Home disc By Mail Ending September 19th

When I logged into my BB queue today, I got the following message.
As of September 19, 2013, Blockbuster @Home™ subscriptions will no longer include DVDs, Blu-Rays, or video games by mail.
As our gift to you, your final by-mail movie or show is yours to keep! If you return your current title, we will do our best to send you the next title in your queue but cannot guarantee availability. To ensure you receive your gift, we recommend keeping your current title.
If you currently have a title from an in-store exchange or a video game, please return it and we will do our best to send you the next movie or show in your queue.
Blockbuster @Home will continue to provide 15 movie and 6 entertainment channels, plus access to thousands of On Demand titles! Learn More about the great features included in Blockbuster @Home.

News just keeps getting worse. I'm trying to cycle thru as many as possible before the deadline, and now it sounds like they are phasing it out already. Sigh. Don't care about keeping last disc, I'm going thru the SG-1 seasons.

Well, I get to keep my bluray copy of A Bridge Too Far! A nice surprise. I was actually thinking of hanging on to it to see if they sent me a mail telling me I had to return it or pay full price for it. Now I can just keep it!!! 
I just checked my Netflix account for you. Netflix has all 50 disks from all 10 seasons of SG-1. You can select them all by season, or individually. How many will you miss with this demise of BB@home disks by mail? Maybe a friendly neighbor can hand them off...
Netflix makes a good profit on their DVD service for $8 a month. Their streaming service is another $8 a month, or $16.
Dish couldn't make money on just $10 a month for both, so they ended it. Looks like Blockbuster itself might be shut down completely in a couple of years.

So their final gift is a used DVD or blu ray with no cover, case, or anything? At least we get to keep a really cool mailer. That doesn't really make up for killing a pretty cool service, IMO.
Also, this makes me wonder about the future of the by-mail DVDs over at the main Blockbuster site - they would still be using those DVDs so why tell the Dish folks not to bother returning theirs . . . unless maybe the main blockbuster site is just about done, too?
Well, it would suck. It would leave Netflix, and then if their dvd by mail goes...we're stuck with being limited by the limitations of streaming and the limitations of Redbox for renting.

My last movie is still in my hands, Harry Potter's last in 3D. Since I was missing that last one this fits in nicely.
Sorry to see the DVD by mail go away, but with the terrible slowness of most shipments, I won't miss it much.

At that point, only option is to wait a few days - check the library or buy it online.
We are on season 7 disc 4. Just mailed it back today. I'd hate to use up the one time free trial but I might. We don't watch many movies, we like old stuff. But if NF has all the Atlantis, U, etc, we might be ahead to sub for a while. $8 vs $10 I suppose.

Netflix is pretty fast. But with one out at a time, there is no way in hell you will get to see the remaining 16 disks in a month. Unless you have a friendly neighbor, such as myself.

I would not worry about the mail portion of Netflix going away anytime soon. I mean, yeah, obviously it's probably not going to be around 5-10 years from now, but it's not going away tomorrow, either. Mail portion is still profitable for Netflix, and is actually what keeps them in the black. Add that to the fact mail portion declines have begun to slowly plateau, and I think the mail portion is safe for the foreseeable future.
No, but it is still nice bonus, if you ask me. Certainly better than what the possible alternative could have been. For example, they could have charged a fee, if the disc was not returned in time.
Otherwise, I just assume the reason they are doing so is because they are going to liquidate/junk their inventory, so it makes little to no difference to them if the customer keeps the disc. If anything, it saves them money, because they do not have to pay for return shipping.
