And my Dish HD 722I picture is very poor compared to comcast!

I recently changed from comcast to dish and have some HD TV's. I have the 722 and a couple of the 211's. The picture quality on my sony bravia 52" in HD is pretty bad. I dare to say that it's worst than on my standard TV set and even comcast HD was better. I'm not looking for blu-ray quality.. but rather just sharp pics as i was gettign with comcast.

Comcast HD was fine but Dish HD is a bit fuzzy and not sharp at all. I've played with the settings and changed from 4:3 to 16:9 and it helped slightly but the quality is horrible still. The local channels 2,3,4,5,7 etc are very bad as well. I've tried changing HDMI cables and anything else i could. I'd never imagine that Dish HD would be worst than Comcast Hd! Help!!

The picture quality with Dish is only slightly better than the non HD channels with comcast. There's something for comparison sake.

There are settings to match your TV, 720, 1080i or 1080p. Don't remember where they are in the 722 menu but you might try that. I had an excellent picture from my 722k, very sharp.

Then you need to get a tech back out. Are the 211's connected to HD TV's? Put a 211 on the Sony and see what it looks like. When you hit TV info button (using the Sony remote) what info on PQ do you get.
Why was the TV on 4:3?

I use to have both Comcast and Dish. I kept Comcast for internet and switched exclusively to Dish for TV. I've got 211s at 3 locations (which is why I switched to Dish for TV) and have never noticed a picture quality issue vs. cable. Are you using HDMI connections to all the displays?

i'll have to try putting the 211 on my TV. The 211's are on one HDTV and one on Standard. I plan to upgrade so they gave me the HD since it's downconvertable. The other TV has always had mediocre pics so i chalked it up as TV problem. But my TV worked well in HD with comcast so i expected the same. The 722 was set at 4:3#1. I changed it to 16:9 and the pic was a little better.

It feels like Dish outputs pics that are too big? the character on dish looks bigger than normal. I have TV and Dish controler set ar full screen or normal. Even the grey and black sides do not help the picture much.

Called dish from work and they wanted em to be in front of receiver to run some tests. So those with Dish, your dish produces crisp pics?

Yes, all hdmi.. it's shocking to me! the picture quality stinks..

when i setup... there are things i've adijust
Default for the first is

Offair 1080i 4:3#1

I changed it to

Offair 1080i 16:9

The pic quality improved slightly.. still not crisp and HD quality.
I tried changing the offair to IRC and HRC and Cable.. I've changed the 1080 to 720... and the 16:9 to 4:3#2 as well and none of the combo dramatically improve anything but rather made thigns worst. The best of the worst combos is with 16:9 right now.

yup.. it's at normal... but even at normal it looks bigger than with comcast.
The pics aren't clear and crisp.. I've even try viewing with the grey and black boxes on the sides and it's still bad.

Just a silly thought to confirm, but you are on the HD channels with the HD logo next to the channel number in the guide?

haha.. yup... i set it to show hd channels only.
The local HD channels 2,3,4,5 7 etc are worst than the cable channel;s i.e. food network.. discovery.. hbo.. show etc..

Sounds like a TV setting is screwed up, there is no way in hell Comcast has a better picture in HD than Dish. I'm sorry but it is just not possible and I've been a tech for a while now and seen the differences first hand and also been on a repeat visit for the same type thing that a customer just doesn't know how to adjust their TV's correctly or have it set for something else prior to a better picture.

I totally agree. Comcast isn't bad at all, but they do not have a superior picture to satellite (either provider - cable providers download off satellite too) Something is not right with this installation I think.

I don't think the OP is that HD or TV savvy. From the description it sounds like he has both the box and his TV set incorrectly or that he is viewing this through an analog connection, not HDMI. Someone will have to go to his house and set the box and TV. Also, to the OP, do you have your HDTV set for FULL PIXEL or similar. If not, your HDTV will OVERSCAN and the Dish guide will seem "too big" or parts of it cut off. Do you even know about Full Pixel?

You can't compare the fact that they receive transmissions via BIG satellite dishes. It's the final delivery method to the user that matters.

My TV is setup for 1080 16:9.. Always been set that way and it worked fine for Comcast. I can't believe that what worked for comcast (I dind;t really have to adjust much) doesn't work for Dish. IF it should be set a different way for dish then let me know what it should be set to. I'm certain that my TV is viewing it from input 3 whch is the HDMI input. I'm not totally familiar with Full Pixel but it's set at the best resolution right now. I don't see any other option to adjust anything else on my Sony. I've adjusted the picture and the settings within the picture.
How do I check to see if it's over scanning? The tech just made sure I got picture and left because he was late to his next appointment.
I just checked this morning and the HD is only minimally better than the HD channels with the local channels. Even with comcast the difference between normal and hd was extremely obvious!
