Hopper With Sling Software Version S328

Seems that for me, the "newly enhanced on-demand" feature means I no longer have on-demand titles! Whether it's PPV or HBO (to which I subscribe) or any of the numerous other options, nothing is there. Tried from the On Demand menu at the bottom of the tuner screen, and tried from the new option in the program guide...nada.

This has been fixed, but I notice when I search from live TV for a movie that may be in the guide OR On Demand, just the guide listings show up whereas the old software gave me the On Demand result also. That is annoying. It was cool to search for something that I missed the start of and find it in the On Demand listings with one click of 'search'. Fix this, Dish!
 
Does anyone see Epix VOD in their EPG? I have the Epix channels, but no VOD. I have VOD in the EPG for the other channels that I subscribe to (HBO, History, etc). I don't even see Epix VOD when I select "All Channels" list.
 
If you have a EHD connected to your Hopper, would you please try transferring your OTA recording of F Troop to the EHD?

Since this update, neither of my two Hoppers have been able to successfully transfer OTA recordings to the EHD.

Just for Jeepers, I will be recording Leave It To Beaver at 8:30 AM PST off of MeTV just to test this. I'll let you know in about an hour or so....

Maybe you have to have the full Epix subscription package for this to occur; i.e., including the Epix Drive-In which I do not have since I receive the Epix channels via BB@ home. Just a thought.

OK, I tried this a couple of times. You are correct, OTA is locking up going to an EHD. I needed to red button reset both times that I tried it to get back to normal. I sent a Dish local channel program to the EHD and back just fine. This was with S418 on a Hopper 2000, so it's an issue on both Hoppers....

Thanks for testing this for me. It appears this is an item for Dish to correct. I've already sent a PM to the DIRT team about this issue. I'll follow-up with them and let you know what happens.

I thought of that too, because I have it through BB@home like you... But it seems like the VOD channel should still appear there, even if it is locked and not part of your subscription. I can see other locked VOD channels that I don't subscribe to (Encore for example).

I'm just wondering if the Epix VOD EPG channel even exists... Does anybody have it???
 
Also, 90% of the icons are gone from my two EHDs, which bums me out!

Same here, along with 1 or the other of my EHD's disappearing much more often. I would have one not show up maybe once every week or two, now 1 is missing more often than not. If they can't manage to figure out how too keep the Icon's on the EHD's then just give up and give us the old list style like on the 722's that's preferable too hunting in a sea of Dish icon's looking a show or movie.

OK, I tried this a couple of times. You are correct, OTA is locking up going to an EHD. I needed to red button reset both times that I tried it to get back to normal. OK, I recorded a 30 minute SD OTA (Last of the Summer Wine) program onto my HWS with OTA dongle. I then tried to transfer it to an EHD. Message said about 1 minute 40 some seconds. Counted down to 2 seconds and stopped. I waited a couple of minutes, then decided to select "Stop." Button "depressed" but did not actually stop. The dialog box remained. So after a bit, I selected view live TV, which it did. I went to the internal DVR, and the program was there, and played (at least the first few seconds played, I stopped watching). So I went to the EHD to see if there was a copy there also. Instead of the "list" of programs on the EHD, I saw the same dialog box as before, declaring 2 seconds remaining.

So let's pursue this a bit. I turned off the EHD and got the "disconnected" message. So far, so good. I then turned the EHD back on. No "connected" message. Not visible on the grey drop down. So I turned on a second EHD (both are self powered and thru a powered USB hub). No "connected" message. Not visible on the grey drop down. So I turned off the first EHD. Got a STRANGE "Disconnected" message. Dialog box 853. "You have disconnected....." and under that, four vertical bars. Never seen that before. Second EHD still not visible on the grey drop down. Turned off the second EHD. No "disconnected" message. I have lost the ability to see EHDs. I will later red button it and see if all comes back. I won't be trying to transfer an OTA program again, unless Dish has specific questions. Feel free to send this added info to the DIRT team member you contacted, if you wish.

It gets WORSE!

I did the red button reset. Turned on EHD #1. Came up, saw EHD contents. Only 2 recordings. Actually, I DK how many recordings were on it before, so this MIGHT not be a problem. Turned on EHD #2. Nada. Wait...Wait...Wait...Wait. Never saw EHD #2. Turned off EHD #1, got the usual "disconnected" message. Turned off EHD #2 - nada.

Turned on EHD #2. Got the "need to format" message. Needless to say, I said no. Turned off EHD #2. Got an idea. Turned on EHD #2, got the "need to format" message, said no. Things went "Hmmmm." Watched the flashing EHD lights. After a minute or so, lots of flashing lights, got the "EHD connected" message. Turned on EHD #1. Got the "connected" message. BOTH EHDs were visible. LOTS of recordings on EHD #2. Turned off EHD #2. Got the "disconnected" message. Turned off EHD #1. Not sure if the "disconnected" message flashed by, because the HWS rebooted!

EHD #2, BTW, is a hardware RAID 1. Slower to come to life, but I NEVER got the "need to format" message before.

I don't have a warm and fuzzy about using the EHDs AT ALL now.

I was going to make a video about the numerous issues (both new and old,) but you know what, f*** it, it would take too long (because there are so many problems) and even if Dish saw it, they're too busy working on worthless new "features" and UI "enhancements" so they can make another press release. That way they can reel in more new customers under contract, then when they try to use the system as intended and it crashes/reboots/just plain doesn't work as expected, oops, too late to back out now! You just signed a two-year contract!

I just upgraded a customer from a 722K to a HWS/Joey today. No matter what I tried the HWS would not see the WD EHD that had all their recordings from their 722K. It gave the 'Disconnected' dialog box when I unhooked it but absolutely nothing else. I tried a brand new 2TB WD and the HWS saw it and asked to format it, then just sat there for a long time doing nothing, then wouldn't see it at all.

I found another thread here where a member was having very similar problems and he reports that he did a search for something specific on the EHD and it magically came to life so I will roll the truck back to this customer's house after Thanksgiving and give that a try. Fun!

I'm with you 3HaloODST, instead of cleaning up the bugs in the previous release they went and made a whole bunch of new ones while screwing up the icons, search functions and other things that worked just fine before.
 
I noticed some small changes. The tiles in the DVR menu look a little different. Can't remember if they always had the number of episodes recorded showing in the corner of the tile but it looks different now. I also noticed that when watching a DVR recording when I am done watching the show it will bring me back to the tile I was on. I think in the past it just brought you to the top of the DVR menu. This is great for when you're watching the multiple episodes of the same show. Last night I was catching up on The Walking Dead when I noticed it, great upgrade.

The thumbnail is smaller and when you highlight a show to watch you can now see the name of the show. Before, the whole tile would turn gray making it hard to read which show it was that you were on.
 
Suddenly I cannot transfer files/programs/show into or out of EHDs on my HwS.
I do this daily. Now I get part way through and the transfer just stops progressing after a few minutes.
There is no error and the only activity is whatever channel was on. Numerous red button reboots.
I was hoping to move a number of shows to reorganize the drives,
transferring some in and some out at the same time as I often do.

Looks like I'm going to get one out to a drive. Found I had transferred one from a group earlier. Two more late
Now trying the transfer back from the drive to free some space for more shows of other titles.
Well it stopped flashing and just sits there and stop does not do anything.
Trying to play a just transferred program results in a "A problem was encountered when opening
the files for the DVR event. Please note the Error Code: 00." in red with the inbound transfer still stuck.

The only thing peculiar is that it has not done an "fsck" in 3 days. I don't like that.
I try to free it for some time after 1:30 and before more recordings start.
Can't even get a guide reload with a check switch. How about a menu item to force a reboot or guide load?

As usual, Dish's estimate for time to transfer starts very large--I've seen 100's of hours.
Within a minute or so it gets close. They should be able to pick a typical transfer rate for the first guess.

Seems you can reboot without it requiring hours to "examine" the hard drives. An improvement.
And yes the shows are still there. Recordings started so have to stop messing with it.
