Hmmm... Super Powers

I am getting word from a few people who have been walking the floor and helping other booths setup that it looks like DISH will have 3 Joeys on display.

The Super Joey
The wireless Joey
And the Virtual Joey

I thought the wireless Joey was the Super Joey, guess I thought wrong.

With that said... I like surprises.

Interesting what a super/wireless/ and virtual may do. I am sure features will be pretty nice, but I wonder since Joeys I think are not used in main rooms per say (I could be wrong) how any would want to upgrade I guess it would be what kind of new bells and whistles there would be with that said I would probably upgrade anyways :) :) Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

Further thought a wireless Joey...has some nice possibilities!

Perhaps Super Joey integrates such things as HBO GO, netflix and hulu plus? I suspect the Hopper already has the horsepower to do it with a software update.

Virtual Joey I could see on smart TVs like LG...

Just got in a picture... Dosen't really say what a Super Joey is... but does have a nice logo.

That new Super Joey looks larger...almost stand-alone receiver sized. Perhaps a Super Joey is one with an additional sat tuner in it?!?

I got to be 100% honest and say... I don't know!

It's getting exciting we are just two days before we officially find out at CES!

Nice to see a Dish photo from CES Scott, it's almost here :)
Yes it is!

All of the SatelliteGuys staff gets there tomorrow and we can't wait! :D

Speaking of which I got to head to the airport at 5am so I am signing off for the night. You guys enjoy the visions of Joey's dancing in your heads. :D

It would be cool if the joeys were mini DVRs. In other words a receiver with enough RAM for trick play. If they had 8GB of RAM they could do trick play for an hour or 2 and still have no moving parts. That could relieve the Hopper of tuner over load where the joeys want to watch live TV when a bunch of recordings want to be made.

Essentially a 211 with a ram drive that could also be a Joey.

Actually thinking about it more why does the 211 still exist? Given how cheap chip prices are, Dish could probably just make a Joey with a satellite tuner, put in some ram for trick play and have it also be able to be a standalone device without a hopper. In other words, a 211 with a bit more processing power to let it stream from the hopper. Dish could then just have 2 boxes a Hopper, and a Joey. The Joey could do everything a 211 could do if it is by itself. Dish would save a ton of money with only 2 set top boxes to make and stock.

I can only imagine the fees these new Joeys will have...

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!! With any new technology there is always a newer & most likely higher FEE associated with it. Hopefully they won't let us all get hooked on it and then hike the price the second year. Oh yeah, they did that with the 2nd hopper fee after saying there would be no difference in price between the 2nd hopper fee and the joeys . So I guess we will all have to take our chances with any new fees that come along with the new tech.

The idea of a wireless joey sounds very cool to me. I could finally get my mom and dad to go with a hopper and one wireless joey for their bedroom , instead of the audio/video sender/receiver unit in SD that they have now with the 722k in the living room. I hope if they do make an improvement in one tech area, it would be that they make the node part of the lnb itself and do away with the other stand alone modes. Would be much easier to install and faster too.:)

Will be interesting to see what the joeys can do. Our Joey is our a bedroom so not sure need to do anything more then it does now. But will be interesting to see what it does now, we are all tech lovers, but yea fees did cross my mind as well :)

95% of my tv watching at home is on my hoppers.

The kids have Joeys in their rooms. The tv in the living room has a Joey and tv tv outside at the Hot Tub has a Joey.

If I do feel it's worth upgrading I will replace the one in the living room or outside at the Hot tub as those are the joeys I use the most.
