I wonder if LG worked out some sort of exclusivity for some period of time, since they seem to be the only one ever mentioned in conjunction with the Virtual Joey. Can't imagine Dish would intentionally leave out Samsung and the other big players.

OH YEAH! Even Directv charges for their virtual receivers on certain tvs , so you know DISH will do the same . Charlie ain't gonna leave any money on the table anymore.
Is there a big enough difference from the first hopper and the hopper w sling that all this new stuff will only work w hoppers w sling ???

DirecTV also charges a monthly fee for their box-less client. Remember, the satellite providers fought tooth and nail to prevent "cable card" standards applying to them. STB's are probably big profit centers for them and they're not going to give away any money if they can help it. I bet the Virtual Joey will be $7 per month.
I'll bet you're right. I just hope it can be deactivated and reactivated just as if it were an owned Joey. Which, in a way, it is.
Confirmed in the video that there will be a fee charged for using a television as a client just as Directv does. I think that was a given. I also think it will be $7 per month. Dish should have this available on Roku's and other devices as well. To offer the programming on the internet all they would need is an app on a Roku device and voila there's your IPTV. I am sure the companies wouldn't mind since it would offer all the packages as they are now on satellite and cable unchanged.

I wouldn't mind the mirroring fee so much, but it should be lower than the cost of an actual joey, since they are not providing any hardware and it is just a software addon to LG's smart tv OS. I would prefer it be like the hard drive addon for the 211's. A one time fee to enable it. That would give me and other LG owners and incentive to upgrade to a Hopper. It would be great to see it added to the WDTV, Roku, Chromecast and AppleTv boxes too.
