Hi,i had a DirecTV installer here yesterday who said I do not have line of sight for a 3lnb dish. I am using an iPad app, which I assume is not as accurate as what the installer has, but does it appear that I do have a good enough view?
I only ask because I wasn't able to walk the property with him and I'm not sure he checked all options.
Thanks for your help

:welcome to Satelliteguys Jtoleric!

What is your zip code? The 119 satellite is used in some areas and if isn't not viewable, they won't install.

Also, Directv requires a 10° window on each side of the satellites.

Hi Chip, thanks.
I am in 18436. He said I only need to see 3 satellites, so I was assuming he meant 99, 101, and 103W. He did not go the roof to check, it may be a better view up there.

That zip code puts you in the Wilkes Barre dma, which has its sd locals on 119. Why he said you don't need it, I have no idea, but Directv won't install without getting all of the satellites needed in your area to get all of the local channels, sd and hd. You can request a supervisor to come out and verify, but you should be there when he is there. If they say no, then you can contact a local independent installer and tell them you only want the three sats you mentioned. That way 119 won't be an issue. You won't get sd locals, but I'm thinking you don't care about that.

Wow, excellent info, thanks a lot!
You are right, I don't care much for SD locals, as long as I have them in HD. I do, however, care about the deal I get with Sunday Ticket, discount for first year, etc. I will try to get a supervisor out here, but if I have to get an independent contractor here, will I lose out on the deal I have with DirecTV?

Could be. Only Directv or the dealer can answer that.

Why is it they need the 119 sat if he's wanting HD ?
He will be able to pick up the HD locals on the 99 or 103 sat ... why D* is worried about peoples SD locals when they can easily get the HD ones, particularly if they are ordering HD equipment.

Often time the Independant contractors have the same deals, you'll have to check if it comes to that.

The last I heard, Directv required access to 119 if your local sd channels are there.

Also, It looks like the 119 might be possible on the ground on the other side of the building. If so that would mean a pole in concrete deal for the dish & a cable run to the side of the building showing....where the e-meter & ground bond is. (Can't be sure of that)

Then there is that tree blocking 119. Got a saw? In rural areas the question is...got a 12 ga shotgun & a box of BB or buckshot ammunition? You could clear that tree. Don't try it in the 'burbs.

As a Dealer I see no problem with Putting in a SWM3. You don't need 110 or 119.. You get NFL Sunday ticket included with Choice packages and above. Might as well get the Genie/Client system as well.......... 1st yr is the big savings and 2nd year it goes up about 20/mnth.

Another thing, make sure they set you up with HD recievers, from the looks of it from OP's first post, installer is installing a 3LNB dish which is used for standard recievers/non hd programming. G'luck

Update:
second installer just came out and said the same as the first one.
He claimed I needed to see all 5 and can only see one. My app must be very inaccurate.

I would call an independent dealer and see if they will do a 3 lnb.

I think I figured out the problem.
The 2nd guy showed me the tool he uses for looking at the satellite, and had me use it to look left/right and then up to 25. I assume this is the elevation. But on dishpointer.com, at my location, the elevation is 35 degrees. Do they measure 10 degrees lower or did he have the wrong information?

35° sounds about right for your area. Directv wants a 10° window to account for tree growth.

If he is saying you need all 5, that would be a SWM 5 install... Your locals are all on 103 you shouldn't need 110 or 119 which are on the SWM 5. You should only need a SWM 3. 99/101/103 HD of course. Need to check a local dealer and not have the HSP send anyone else out.
