Halo 5 Announced for 2015

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/16/halo-the-master-chief-collection-revealed

The Master Chief Collection is rumored to be out later this year for Xbox One. Supposedly it will include remastered versions of Halo 1-4. This is the rare re-release I would actually buy. I already mentioned that I only played half of Halo 4 before giving up my 360. It's been so long since I played 1-3 that I would be happy to play them again too. A pretty version of those 4 games together on Xbox One would be well worth $60 to me.

Nice!!

I think this sounds really cool. Halo 1-4 with the original multiplayer from each game on 1 disk for $60. I will likely be downloading this on day 1 to play through 1-3 again and finally finish Halo 4 for the first time.

Edit: it looks like there are about 100 multiplayer maps all together and this comes with entry to the Halo 5 beta and the Halo TV series plus 4 solid campaigns. That's a pretty nice package for $60.

Looks pretty cool. If I had a One I'd be all over this. If they end up making this a bundle deal with the full One (Kinect included) this winter I may pick it up. Reading that they kept the multiplayer experiences fully intact is pretty damn sweet. I LOVED Halo 2 multiplayer. I lost so many hours playing that. It's probably not really as good as I remember it being, but Halo 1-3 sucked up a lot of my time, and I wouldn't mind getting back into that old experience again.

How are they going to pull off the multiplayer? Is it going to be a base multiplayer like Halo Reach with just access to EVERY map from the entire series accessible, or do you have to launch the separate games for the separate maps? Also, what about the various rules and differences among all the games? For example, the pistol in Halo 2-3 is MUCH different than in 1 and 4. Was this ever covered?

I didn't watch any of the conferences. I'm not really sure about the logistics of everything. I did read that this wasn't going to be like the Halo 1 anniversary edition that basically just included a map pack for Halo Reach though.

They said each game's original multiplayer would be included complete with DLC maps. They specifically mentioned weapons behaving the way they originally did in each individual game. They even mentioned that they purposely brought over glitches and strange physics from the original code whenever possible so things like rocket jumping would work the way they used too.

I'm not sure if you pick the specific game you want to play the multiplayer for or if it is all just mixed together though. They said players would be able to vote for the next map but I don't see how that would work if they let you pick levels from different games though. The physics and weapons would be different from match to match.

On the other hand, if they treat them as separate games they would be splitting the player base 4 ways and I'm not sure the Xbox One community is large enough to support that yet. That might cause a scenario where a million people are playing Halo 1 or 2 but virtually no one playing 3 and 4.

I don't know exactly how it will all work but I'm excited just to play through all the campaigns. The classic multiplayer sounds great but that's just the cherry on top for me.

I'm all about the multiplayer aspect. I really stopped giving a sh*t about the Halo story once the trilogy ended. How rare of me to say that I'm looking forward to multiplayer as opposed to single player..

I just watched this video from IGN. Apparently multiplayer works like this, you pick a game mode like team slayer. Then after each match everyone will be able to vote for one of 3 maps to play next. The game the map is from will be displayed under the map's title. If a map from Halo 1 wins than the engine from Halo 1 is loaded up along with the map. This means you will be seamlessly jumping between all 4 Halo games from round to round. It seems like switching engines every 15 minutes would be a little jarring but I guess they thought this was better than splitting up the player base.

If you only want to play Halo 2 multiplayer I'm sure they will give you a playlist that let's you do that though.

It would be cool if they implemented some sort of cross gaming rules, like having Halo 2 weapons in Hang Em High or stuff like that. We'll see how prolific 343 Studios is.

Gameplay video of Halo 5. Looks like they're really trying to mix things up.

I know Halo purists will hate this stuff but I'm on board. Luckily for those purists, their old style multiplayer exists in the MCC. After playing a ton of COD and other shooters I can say that Halo feels a little slow. In my opinion, adding sprint and enhanced movement skills can only help that.

Plus they are doing it in a much smarter and more balanced way than they did with Reach where some people had a jetpack, some had armor lock, some had sprint, etc... I fell like doing it this way, where everyone is equal is more true to the spirit of the old Halo games than what Reach did.

Allegedly the beta is starting.... today? This was taken from one of those countries where they reverse the date, so it's day/month/year.

Unless they are using a different date scheme than most people in the US that looks like April 12th to me. If you go to the Amazon listing for MCC it says Halo 5 Beta access starting December 29th right near the top of the page. Obviously Amazon posted that information, not Microsoft but they probably got it from somewhere.

Edit: a quick google search showed lots of references saying the Beta starts December 29th. Here is a Polygon article about it.

Edit 2: I completely missed the part where you explained why the date was reversed.

Also, I'm looking forward to the Halo 5 Beta as much as the next guy and it absolutely needs one but it seems like this should be delayed. They should be putting all of their resources into fixing MCC before worrying about their next release even if that means missing their traditional November launch.

I haven't tried to play since last night's patch so maybe I'm completely off base and everything is fixed now. I highly doubt that though.

Even 343i stated that the latest patch didn't fix everything. I tried it out last night but couldn't get into any matches, but that may have been the result of XBL being wonky last night (game services had issues last night so I played Murdered: Soul Suspect instead.) But yeah it would look VERY bad PR wise if they push the beta out before they fixed the MCC. I think everyone would COMPLETELY understand delaying H5 to deal with this, as you're basically dealing with the same audience.
