This doesn't seem right unless you meant something else, because a deal or not doesn't guaranteed prices would stay the same.

I get it Dish can't give into demands when there's retrans increase, so they'll play hardball for a while until they come to a reasonable price that both can agree to, but then what price hike happens.
What happens if they do keep their word to remove it permanently(at least Turner stations)
I would bet it'll be a price increase regardless, or I could be wrong but I doubt it.

I would say 90% of the time this is what happens.. both sides make a huge stink and then come to a deal before the end of the contract.
My gut is not feeling too good on this one... Les Moonves seriously hates DISH and the Hopper. He is kind of strange and in the past has been quoted saying something to the effect of, if you go to the bathroom during commercials that you are stealing from him. He wants all DVR's disabled and is not shy about saying it. The question I have is how much will Charley cave to him? CBS is America's #1 TV Network and DISH needs CBS. This is a far more serious dispute when compaired to Turner. (And I have no idea what the dispute with Turner is about... it is my understanding they have come to agreement about the prices and online streaming... they want to be back on DISH not sure why DISH don't want them back.)
I know one thing one of the big reasons why I got satellite was to get channels I couldn't get from my cable company, if channels are going to keep being removed I can't figure out a reason to stay. And quite honestly if it were not for the Hopper I don't know if I would still be a satellite subscriber right now.
I try to be middle ground but I know most consider me a Dish Pom-Pom waver. I completely understand the complaint about saying you're not getting what you are paying for but I'd have to side with @ChadT41 on this one. Dish specifically states that they reserve the right to changes prices and programming at any time. When you get Dish you are agreeing to these terms. Saying you are getting screwed seems odd when you agreed to Dish's rules. It's no different with any other TV provider as well.
I have used the complaint about not getting what I'm paying for with Dish before. I called Dish up and complained about losing BTN a few years ago. I was pretty upset because I was paying $160 for basically everything Dish offered but they took my Iowa games away from me. At the same time I understand that they have the right to. Dish gave me some credits and I was happy.
Scott, you make an excellent point IMHO re: if it was not for the Hopper hardware. While problematic, the Hopper is still light years ahead of anything I encountered while I had Comcast for most of my adult life. It also has noticable advantages over Direct TVs hardware, based on what my spouse tells me about what they have at their duty house. Luckily, the only show that I currently must see on CBS is Person of Interest (I love me some Jim Caviezel). We are not a sports household, so losing CBS will not be tragic for me, but it will piss me off on principle at this point. However, what can those of us still under contract do? Nada for now. I cannot afford the cancellation fees, so here I stay for a few more months. I am gone after that though unless something amazing happens. I really feel for sports fans who get caught up in this crap. It has got to be frustrating.
Since I have been the topic of some here, let me assure you I have no access to OTA locals where I live in rural NorCal. That said it's a small price to pay to avoid urban spall.
Like I said if we occasionally took a self anointed discount Dish would cut us OFF...but for some it's ok for Dish to take a perceived stand against CBS and others and break the moral arrangement they have with their customers .

The solution here is for the FCC to allow Dish to bring nearby CBS stations, not owned by CBS, to replace the blacked out channels.
Unfortunately, the FCC is basically controlled by political contributions so will protect CBS, Inc.

It's of little or no consequence, but the author is apparently unaware that Thursday Night Football has moved to NFL network for the remainder of the season.

You certainly can take a self-anointed discount...have you tried calling or chatting with a CSR to ask for compensation for the lost channels (so far, the Turner channels)?
Showtime going is just extortion plain and simple. I seriously doubt that Showtime isn't on a separate contract even though it might expire on the same date.
From my POV as a long time subscriber to Showtime, if it goes dark it will stay dark regardless of renewal of contract. I sub to it primarily for the excellent boxing and the fairly rare original series that SHO does that I like. But I'm finding plenty of boxing is on a lot of other channels and it sure isn't like I can keep up with my recordings anyway. So saving $14/month is looking pretty good about now.
I'm thinking if SHO gives Showtime Anytime a whirl for Dish customers, then subbing to them for a month a couple times a year would fill the bill just fine. And while I'm at it, might as well just do the same with the other Premiums I have. I tend to binge watch series as it is, and that would fit just fine.
Probably have to do with Turner channels not being a part of Dish's OTT service, so probably stalling until TNT and TBS

They gave me a 5 buck a month for 3 months for the CNN mess...but I think you're missing the point.

Except you could cause problems for other broadcasters that AREN'T affiliated with CBS.
Here's my example (programming made up)... WBBM in Chicago is pulled. So Dish imports the CBS from Madison, WI. However, the NBC in Chicago has the Jeopardy! contract. So does the CBS in Madison. Now you're (potentially) taking viewers from the NBC show. How is that fair to them?
Also, if Dish is allowed to import from another market, what's their motivation to negotiate "in good faith"?
I'm not sure there is much of a moral arrangement that any TV provider has with their customers. The providers lay out their terms of service and it's up to the customer to do their own research. It may suck but that's the way it is and has been for years.
I agree that it's a small price to pay to stay in the country. Eventually I plan on moving back out to the country but I worry about giving up some of the benefits I have now. Someday.
