Supergirl (Now on CW)

What about Isis(not the terror group) during the 80's?
That show ran from 1975 to 1976 during the Saturday morning cartoons. I watched it as a kid. It showed a strong female heroine in that series too. Another show that ran for 16 episodes back in 1976 during the Saturday Morning cartoons was "Electra and Dyna girl. " A live action series that starred Deidre Hall of Days of Our Lives fame.

I really liked the way Supergirl used Hellen Slater(original Supergirl) and Dean Cain (original Superman from Lois &Clark tv show) , to play the earth foster parents for Kara. Flash used the original 90's Flash to play Barry's dad Henry. Smallville used Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder from the Superman movies to play in guest roles. Love it when they tie historical relevant tv characters into modern super hero shows.

You know he's on the downslide when his last TV appearances were Worst Cooks in America and a Hallmark movie.

Very refreshing to see a superhero who wants to be a superhero and isn't brooding and moping about the responsibility. I'm also glad we got the secret identity reveals out of the way for most of the central characters (except her boss), so we won't have those "how can they not tell it's her?" in episode after episode.

Regarding the "PC BS" comments early in this thread, when will we get past even noticing gender equality and diversity as "PC BS" and not just simply normal? Perhaps it's a byproduct of living in a coastal California city my whole life, but the "PC" aspects of this show didn't even register for me until I read this thread.

I thought the same thing about Super Girl fitting in on Cw . IF it doesn't do well on CBS , I hope that they move it to CW and not just cancel it. Then they could do crossovers all over that network. Flash and Super Girl should be in the same universe and the same network.

Episode two was actually better than the pilot. So far, I don't really resonate with the soapy moments in this show as much as I do in the Flash, but I like Supergirl getting a chance to confront and go up against the season's big bad early on, instead of dragging it out until a mid-season finale. Lots of interesting plotlines are developing.

This week's fight scenes were a bit too Flash-like (as in lame) for me. So in Supergirl's first encounter with Reactotron, she figures out to use a car door as a shield and then throw it at him to disable his power core. But later in a junkyard surrounded by scores of broken down vehicles, that strategy is no longer viable and she totally gets her ass kicked.

I put up with Barry's idiocy in fights with metahumans because the Flash TV show has a lot of other great stuff going for it in terms of storylines, characters, humor, and the TV show crossovers. I can't say the same thing about Supergirl. Story and the characters and their relationships are just okay for me. At this point, the only thing this show has going for it is Melissa Benoist.

I think there's an even bigger problem with last night's fights. It should not have been any sort of contest. The show is ignoring the fact that Supergirl is fast (like Flash fast). She should have been able to dodge the energy blasts 100% of the time (not to mention knocking the guy out before he even got a shot off). But, the flip side is, Supergirl's power levels are off the charts, if they were to write her according to that, there'd be no suspense and no real fights unless they continually raised the stakes with villains.

I think we are supposed to be seeing Supergirl find her way in the world including learning about her powers etc. So she is going to make stupid mistakes in judgement and that is why Superman protected her from Reactron when she was at her lowest. I think she will improve as time goes on ,but if the ratings continue to drop I say move it to CW quickly. I would rather she lived in that universe anyway. Because then she can do cross overs with Flash , Arrow , etc.
