Dish to unveil 4k?

Dish knows what the MAJORITY of their customers are best covered with. Customers with a single 4K TV are no doubt very rare. They will not, and should not, build hardware for those fringe groups. This is why (3) tuners in the Hopper is fine - for the majority. This is why 4K hardware isn't in the Hopper. They are using add-on hardware to accommodate those few that need it (4K, added tuners, etc).

When the new 4K UHDTV's have a spatial scaling engine built in the UHDTV the TV will upconvert all the signals it receives.

Has any 1080p tv's done any good with up converting SD and 720p? Is spatial scaling different and much better than what has been used in the past and the consumer be able to tell a big difference? Wonder what SD would look like up scaled on them?

No.
That's always been one of the Biggest complaints.
HD tvs SD Picture quality.

But yet Up converted 4K is supposed to make 1080i and 720p look better?
Not buying that one!
All I've seen is a blast of contrast, and a boost in color.
Just like 480i upconverted to 1080i.
But not an acual improved picture.

You can't take something small and blow it up , and get a better picture, the content just isn't there.
That's when you get the screen door effect and the heavy microblocking.

The new 4K UHDTV's are a different animal than we are used to,the 1080p HDTV was not upconverting as much compared to the 2160p UHDTV.

It's all what the user's eyes say, some say WOW! this is an awesome picture, while others say,It does not look that great or this picture is not as good as before.

I say their both right because how can we see what another person's eyes see for them?.:)

Yeah should look better but make sure you have HDMI cables that meet the correct standards and check your 4TV settings as well.

I was answering the question about my TV. There is a 2015 Black Friday 40" 4k out there for $449 with the mini. The full One Connect model is $599, well worth the extra $150. I bought an sek3500 for my 2014 TV for a great price of $274.
There is a question in my mind of the utility of a box that costs $300 being added to a $600 TV. I'm not convinced they've perfected the technologies that the One Connect box doesn't replace (the panel and its backlighting technology high on the list).

Any "High Speed HDMI" cable should be sufficient. That they've added a specific UHD certification is a crime (of Monster Cable proportions) when the High Speed HDMI cables must meet and test to the same specifications.

You have a 4k TV connected to Dish? If you do it must be a lousy brand, because the upscaling on my set makes Dish's 1080i noticeably sharper.
More likely your 1080p TV experience was lousy.

If DISH's PQ was truly as bad as some say, UHD would likely make it worse.

Yeah true but like with many things everyone setup will always vary some just have better hardware in place than others.

i think dish will put out a hopper 4k at CES we wont know anything until then.
I think you're inhaling too much of the wacky weed smoke unless your talking a CES years into the future.

A UHD Joey meets the need until such time as linear UHD becomes a thing. You shouldn't expect your TV provider to provide content that doesn't exist. History shows us that premature pushing typically doesn't end well.

thats true chad who knows some companies might announce there about new 4k channels.
Alternatively, one company might introduce one part-time channel as ESPN did back in the 3D days. Hardly worth outfitting everyone with the capability.

With TV and economy being what they are, assuming the bleeding edge is right round the corner is insanity.

Then you must have had a Crappy 1080p tv.
You can't pull details out of thin air when they don't exist.

Upconverted content is taking a smaller picture it stretching it to fit a bigger one.
And then you see more details of a stretched picture beyond its native resolution is not better PQ.
In fact you see things you shouldn't see.
It's not rocket science.
If it was you wouldn't be able to buy it for $348 at Walmart.

Now some of you guys got me wondering If you even know what good HD is.

Sounds to me you think stretch o vision, grainy picture, over contrasting, over Sharpness and bright color is good HD.

And taking 540 or 720 depending on your tv, and stretching it to fit 1920 is the same as taking 1920 and stretching it to 3800.
It's taking something that's not there and spreading it over a larger area.

Acually in fact Dish's HD is 1440x1080 and now your stretching that to over 3800.
Yikes.
Only the 720p content is full res.

Can u name 1 4K channel..other thanNASA

Now that a lot of 4K tv's are coming to market I can see where a lot of 4K channels would become available over the next few years. Most of the content will be online for the time being though.

NASA's UHD offering doesn't appear to be a linear offering. They describe it as "footage". I would imagine that the fashion channels are similar with catch as catch can UHD footage as opposed to full-time edited programming.

Dish vs DirecTV vs Suddenlink
