DISH 2016 CES Press Event

My wife always has problems with any tech that has voice options. It is funny to watch her try to get the Amazon Echo to work. I am glad Dish is keeping other non-voice remotes available or I would be getting a lot of grief at home when I upgrade.

Wonder what sort of training the Installers will have. I've had horrible experiences with 3/4 of the installers that Dish sent in here in the past. I'm talking a combination of technical knowledge and courtesy to respect a person's home.

Don't need to hear how the installer doesn't get paid enough to do a good job. The Dish products are amazing and service is great but I am paranoid to let the these guys at my HT wiring with his wire snipers and hammer drill.

I'm sure you could use the new remote the 'old fashioned' way. Just because it has voice capabilities doesn't mean that you have to use them. ;)

I am in the same boat as you Don. I have had some bad experiences in the past, but the last few visits have been phenomenal! I think the way Dish is wanting to keep subs as well as grow subs they will have them trained correctly out the door. I'm sure they have been working on training before this was even announced.

Has there been any word on the cost of the 4K Joey? Will it be the same as the regular Joey? I ask because when upgrading to H3, I will have to get 3 additional Joeys and although I don't have 4K TV's at those locations (don't have any 4K sets presently, waiting on compelling content, and the 2016 sets to hit the shelves) I was thinking that the 4K Joey would likely have more processing horsepower and be faster than the current Joey models.

Luckily I'm still a retailer. I'm hoping I can get one of these ordered as soon as they're available so I can install it myself. I can't imagine having someone else installing my Dish equipment.

Looks like I'll be replacing both HWS receivers and a Joey. This would put my set up at a Hopper 3 with two Joey 2.0 and a Wireless Joey.

To tell you the truth, I had really rather buy the new LNBF, the H3 and the Joey's and do it myself. That being said, I figure that it will be more economical for me to upgrade through Dish, and go through the motions of dealing with the installer. Especially since there is no advantage to having owned equipment and I plan on staying with Dish anyway.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those "soon" things and we end up waiting until December of this year.
Well, I've already heard late January, and Late 1st Quarter.
So I'm placing my bet on SOON.

While this HOPPER looks fantastic, I don't think this is going to bring the subscriber numbers up either.

IMO, When something is ready for release in supposedly less than a month, They would have a date set.

Which tells me they are not ready since there is no date.

But looks awesome, I bet it will function fantastic, and hopefully it's reliable and Dish techs can figure out how to hook them up properly.
Seems simple to me.
Hopefully this will eliminate the random Taps in place of the proper coax that should be ran.

My tech was lazy, and if I upgrade , I think I want to do it myself.

Yeah Dish did well here just makes me wonder what Direct will do with the Genie.. :)

Thanks Scott for giving us the latest news from Dish. I was about to get the HWS when Dish offered me a free upgrade about 3 weeks ago but I knew dish would likely have something new for CES. Sounds like the Hopper 3 is what I need. Please cut me a little slack since I have not been keeping up with the latest from Dish but will my old 1000.2 dish which was installed back when I got a 622, work with new Hopper 3 or will I need all new equipment to upgrade. If I am reading this thread correctly the old 1000.2 will still work. Again thanks in advance for all you guys do here.

The dish will work, but the LNBF assembly will need to be upgraded to the new DISH Hybrid LNBF set-up.
