Anyone having OTA reception problems with H3?

Should show as available to purchase - login to your Dish account & navigate to the order from store section.

Thanks, but I just logged into DISH, and went to the "order from store", and it is not listed.

Amazon and e-bay have a "DISH Network USB Digital OTA Tuner For Hopper ES194858", should I consider one of these, or is that just asking for trouble, and I should wait for DISH to list it?

Do you have a Hopper yet? If not, you have to wait until you get one before you can see it on the Dish site and order it. The dongles that you see on Amazon and Ebay are the same ones that Dish has. In fact, they got them from Dish but you usually pay a bit more there.

On Thursday I had the Hopper 3 installed after switching from Directv and I've noticed that my OTA channels are pixelating or dropping out every 10-15 seconds on every channel. I also had the OTA connected to Directv and didn't experience these problems.. I don't believe the installer messed around with the antenna when he was installing so I'm not sure why this would be an issue with Dish.

Thanks!
I had the same problem. My OTA was perfect on the previous Hopper 2 with Sling, but pixelated or dropped out badly immediately after hooking it up to the new Hopper 3. Here's what I did that fixed it:

"Double-Rescan -- The Federal Communications Commission designed a process called double-rescanning, which erases and then reprograms the channels in the converter box or digital TV's memory.

To double-rescan, you'll first need to disconnect the antenna from the converter box or digital TV. Then disconnect the converter and/or digital TV power supplies from the wall. Wait a minute before plugging them back in. The antenna should still be disconnected.

With the antenna disconnected, run the channel scan function on the converter box or digital TV. When the scan completes you will have completely removed any channel data the converter box or digital TV had in its memory.

Now, it's time to rescan for real. Do this by reconnecting the antenna to the converter box or digital TV and running the channel scan function again."

I can't remember where I found that information, but my son used it when he moved to a new apartment and it also worked for him. I also retightened and checked all my USB and coax connections. Everything works fine now.

Only problem I have is with one channel. It is the ABC affiliate. They use two channels, one 75 miles away which has a lot of drop outs and is on physical channel 10. The other is on a repeater 5 miles out of town and is on physical channel 26. This one comes in at 100% and plays fine. Problem on the H3 is that there is no manual input for adding channels. That means it scans in the flaky ch10. And skips the good ch26. There is no way to get the ch26 to stick and skip the ch10. I could do that on my old 722.

Not exactly the same issue as me, but when recording a show on my local ABC channel I get cutouts every couple of seconds. However, if I'm watching that same channel live i have no issues.

I am having this exact issue. When watching a OTA channel live it is perfect but if I watch a recording on the same OTA channel the recorded playback is all screwed up.

That is a bug that I can confirm. I don't think there are a lot of us who use OTA recordings so the more of us that report this to DISH the quicker they might fix it. Please report it to DISH via DIRT.

I had it this morning on both my 4K Joey and my Hopper 3. First, I tried restarting the H3. The breakups were still happening. Finally, I unplugged the USB cable from the OTA module and plugged it back in, which requires a reboot of the Hopper 3, of course.

After it came back up, all my OTA channels were coming in solid, no breakups.

My Hopper 3 was installed on Monday, and in "My Equipment" it says MODEL HOPPER3, and when I look at "Order from Store", I do see a "Remote Control - Hopper 3/Joey 2", but no USB Dongle etc.

I will keep on checking back, I do thank you for your info!

Now that I can record 16 channels at the same time, I am not as concerned about my OTA. I do think the signal is slightly crisper-cleaner with the OTA signal, but nothing "night and day"!

I see it 3 from the bottom. It might take a few days for you to see it being as how you installed yesterday....

I too have the OTA dropouts on recordings, and this is on channels that are 100%. I live 8-12 miles from all the towers, and all but two are 100%, the two that are not are in the 90's. I'll try the reboot and see if that works.

Reboot isn't going to fix it. Please report it to DISH via DIRT.

I got my H3 today and it is on the new SW, not having any issues. I tried recording about 5 mins off my local CBS and ABC, and the recordings seemed fine.

Another odd thing is, I have never been able to get Fox reliably, it's now at 80% and I have been watching it for 2 hours in the back ground. Also recorded a few mins of it and no issues.

I went through the same thing about getting the OTA USB tuner. Just do what I did and get one on eBay for 38 bux and free shipping. I heard Dish charges 30 for it.

I got my OTA Module through the Amazon link at the top of the webpage. My cost was $39 delivered.

Big news! The latest firmware from 2/10, U303 for the Hopper 3 has taken care of my OTA Module breakups, both on the Hopper 3 and on the 4K Joey. :D I'm not sure what else the update addresses, but this was a biggie! Thank you, Dish!
