Customers that ordered Directv before 07/24/2014 are still paying an HD Fee $10, DVR Fee $10, and Whole Home Fee $3 - after that date they pay the Advanced Receiver Fee.

Is that legal? Seems like a class action or something?

On the face of it, it's perfectly legal and legitimate for a company like DirecTV to charge what they wish for whatever products/services they offer. This would be akin to Apple selling the iPhone SE (of a particular memory level) for $499 today, but then changing that price downwards by $100 in six months.

In reality, it is true that DirecTV has changed its pricing structure. It's also true that DirecTV has either mentioned (or it was rumored here somewhere) that the HD fee may eventually go away, given that it's similarly been said that DirecTV might be moving to all HD by something like 2018 or 2019.

The only time that I'm aware of that you could go "class-action" against a company is (1) having not signed an arbitration clause (which almost everyone would have had to explicitly opt out of within so many days/months of signing up for service -- at least that's how I've seen some companies execute their EULA) and/or (2) otherwise reasonably caused you to enter into contract without disclosing said fees/prices.

My few cents.

not all, i have free hd for life

you can always redo your contract to get the current prices if you think you will benifit
Question: If DirecTV is being that explicit with timing as to when accounts were created, are you saying that DirecTV is willing to go against these tiers as opposed to simply giving credits on one's account?

huh?
my hd is free because they had a promotion when i signed up
both direct and dish used to run the same one
free hd for life with paperless billing and autopay

Ah. That makes a little bit more sense.

As much as I say nice things about DirecTV, they really do more for the new customer than those of us who've been around for more than a decade.

So for a sub with just 1 DVR(HR44) and an account created prior to 02/12 I only see a $1 difference in savings by creating a whole new account? Am I reading that correctly? Thanks

I hate to repeat myself again about UVerseTV for rain/snow backup but if they did implement that I wonder how that would figure into the Advanced Receiver Fee and also if that rumored hybrid gateway goes headless?

I have that promo too. I hope I stay on the old system... $13 is better than $15

They have always been that way ...
The New Sub is bringing in more money they say ...
Not so, if you consider the promos they get vs those of us that have been here.

if you think directv is bad, look at dish fees
it varies by receiver, even the dvr is diff for diff units

DVR Service
Hopper or Hopper w/ Sling $15.00
All other DVR receivers $10.00

Additional Receivers (1st leased receiver is free)

Hopper or Hopper w/ Sling $15.00
Super Joey $10.00
Wired or Wireless Joey $7.00
922, 722, 722k, 625, 622or 522 $17.00
322, 222 or 222k $14.00
612 or 512 $10.00
411, 311, 211 or 211k $7.00

AFAIK there are 3 price plans depending on when you signed up.

1st 1:
10HD/10DVR/3WHDVR, free 1st receiver = $23 (plan I'm on)

2nd 1:
25/Advanced receiver, free 1st receiver = $25 & covers all 3 services

3rd 1:
15/advanced receiver BUT no free 1st receiver anymore = $21

The per month receiver fee is now $7, so your third option is $22.
