Well I can't keep my hands off a cool project like this. I had KE4EST send me one of those boards so I could play along. Started assembly to day and it looks good so far. Need to buy a few more parts too.

While I wait for a couple of things I flashed the Mega and hooked an LCD. Should I be seeing a message?

Ok I think I figured it out :) I have the display hooked up in 8 bit mode and it needs to be 4 bit.

Well that gave me 4 rows of white squares ;) no message yet

Hook it up like this:

Arduino........................LCD

Pin 12 .........................RS Line
Pin 11..........................Enable Line
Pin 10..........................D4
Pin 9...........................D5
Pin 8...........................D6
Pin 7...........................D7

Make sure your contrast POT wiper is hooked to VD. And one end of the POT is hooked to Ground and the other end is hooked to +5V

Project update: While we have been busy enjoying the work we are doing with the Arduino boards and ironing out some things, we have started to evaluate just how far we want to take this project. With today's technology the sky is the limit. Do we want to design a professional tool that could cost lots of money or just a hobby project, more for instructional aid and fun too. Right now we are striving to keep it simple and use the Atmega328 (UNO)

So that I don't waste my time re-inventing the wheel, is this project available as either a kit or finished product? I already have an Uno.

No it never was made into a kit. Got busy with other projects and never got back to it.

OK. Sometimes one has to order bulk quantities of parts when the stuff isn't available locally. I envy you big city folks.

Thar ain't no big city here. :D

Looks impressive!! Just like your other project you posted earlier. You better hope some strange Russian guy doesn't come on here to take a serious dump on your projects and always tell you how you did everything wrong continually to demoralize you way down. They are supposed to have all the answers to everything. Anyway, keep up the good work.
