Wish DIRECTV were more like TIVO is this regard, which is currently dealing with its own many complaints about issues with their new 4th generation UI codenamed "Hydra."
However, for this major release TIVO thankfully chose to makes it optional and is not forcing anyone to upgrade to it from the previous 3rd gen. UI. Plus provides a method to get back to the 3rd gen. UI if you're dissatisfied with Hydra. (Although you will lose all your settings and recordings if you revert)
quick question... last night the new firmware version was streaming in green, at least it appeared to be. I attempted a force update several times but never got anything. anyone have an idea why? I have an hr44-200.
Did it show up on your screen saying New Software Found ?
If not then you either got the National Release (NR), or you got nothing new.
no. out went from the "hello" screen straight to the "almost there" screen. never went to the software update screen.

What remote are you using?
Though mine is an HR54, yours may have a problem like with my and some other's Genies have reported. For some reason the 0-2-4-6-8 on bootup to force a download won't work well or even at all on RF from the new Genie remote.
I have to use IR from the old black and white remote to get the Genie respond to the code on restart and begin the FW update process.
Holy crap man you're right. went grab an rc66 and it worked first time. it started to download the old software of course now the window is gone. that's strange, I've forced updates with my rc73s before. pretty sure that was my problem. thanks. I'll have to try again later.
Ok. Series options. Am I missing something or is there not a way to adjust now when reviewing the recording in the play list? It seems I have to go back to the UI and find the program in “manage recording” to make any adjustments despite the fact I already have it highlighted in the playlist. What idiots came up with this? It’s freaking terrible.
Try the Info button when your in the Recording (in the List ) this will take you to more options on the left hand side.
Is that what your asking for ?
I did but I can’t seem to change how many episodes to keep and whether to record only new or all. Only place I’ve seen is to drill down under manage recordings.

I thought the HR34 wasn't going to be getting the new UI. Am I correct? and if you can, can you tell me when it will be rolling out again for the HR54?
You are correct - the HR34 is not getting the new inteface, but those units are getting CE software tonight. The new interface might be in the stream for HR44 and 54 at 3 am on Monday, that would be the next time I would look.
