Set up a timer and then edit the timer so instead of saying DVR it says auto tune. Simple.
Or, to set one up as autotune from scratch: press the DVR button on the remote, press Skip Forward twice to get to the Timers tab, press the Options button (or the red button on 40.0 remotes), then number 3 (Create a Timer). From there, you can set the timer type to Autotune, and select the time, date, frequency and channel for the timer.
I edited a timer that was already in place and switched it from DVR to autotune. I wasn't sure if it would still record or if I had to set up another timer but the red record indicator is still on. Thanks for the autotune info.

Dish has no economic incentive to fix this issue while they charge $10/mo for your locals via satellite. If nothing else, Dish should refund all OTA module purchasers the $50-60 they paid for a unusable device that was sold as a "fully functional" means to receive local ATSC broadcasts.
And they have less incentive to fix it now that they charge $12 per month for locals. (Although it has been speculated that even at that rate, Dish loses money on locals on some markets, giving Dish an economic incentive to allow subscribers to drop locals.)
The OTA module itself works fine. It works as expected when I use it with a Wally. The problems being reported in this thread seem to be software issues affecting certain models of receivers, and not even every receiver of the same model (such as Hopper 3) has the problem.
I noticed last night that the OTA channels were not breaking up again. This was while watching on one of the Joeys. The Hopper wasn't on and no autotune was set.

I very seldom watch OTA when broadcast but when I have it has been error free but I consistently have problems when viewing recorded OTA. This leads me to believe the problem actually revolves around the recording/playback code.
But when you are watching live OTA broadcasts, are you watching them on the Hopper or Joey? Live content on the Hopper is always error free, it is the Joey's that break up (unless the Hopper has already tuned to an OTA station).
Until just now I have only watched OTA live or recorded through my H3. For the first time I just tried viewing an OTA recording via my Joey and it breaks up, too.
The auto tune timer is just that, it changes the tuner, it does not start a recording, if you want to do both it takes 2 timers.
Found this out last night. Even though the red record indicator was on in the guide the program didn't start recording until I pressed record. Apparently the red dot is lit up for autotunes also?? How can you set up a new timer if there is already one set up for autotune? Or do you just have to wait for the show to start and hit record everytime?
Yes, this has been a problem ever since I got my first Wally last year. (my first experience using the CUI) Dish really needs to do a better job of distinguishing between these two types of timers.
Set a manual timer to fire right before the show starts (see the steps in post number 185 above) and set a DVR timer for the show you want to record.
He meant the red dot in the guide that indicates a timer is set. There is no red LED on Wally, Hopper Duo, or Hopper 3 (the subject of this thread).
