I've reached my limit of frustration with "Time for another AWESOME video". My security system blocks anything related to Google including Youtube so whenever I click on what appears to be some interesting reading I'm greeted with yet another blank window. Sorry if it annoys some folks but I'm not into a video blog, I don't believe that's what a forum should be about. By the way, I won't be monitoring responses so flame away if you are so inclined..

I would probably put some kind of a google blocker on as well if I could, but with good information now drowning in AI on internet search, youtube seems to be something of a refuge for some valid info.

Since we added the Social Influencers section the amount of time people spend on the site has increased. And as you can see by the views, people are watching them... thats good for us

I understand they are not for everyone and thats why we have given our users tools to remove things they don't want to see, including those forums.

But since RadioGuy says he's not reading replies, then I guess he will never know this. :D

The worst one is Ham Radio 2.0. He'll post something that sounds like it might be interesting. But when you click on the video link it says its available in three hours or something like that. I'm sure as heck not going to wait around for three hours. And when the video is available I've forgotten about it and moved on to something else.

And while we're on the subject. There is a button to ignore the Social Influencers. But it doesn't work. Or if it does it only works for a while and then they come back.

We spend more time on YT than probably anywhere else

Free

Varied

Mostly short

I spend enough time there that we pay for YT Premium, I just have no interest in any of those creators and few if any of the ones I regularly watch make sense to add.

Of course, my kids gotta mess up my recap...

I've had them hidden since day one as well, and they have never re-appeared for me. YouTube 'influencers' are nothing more than grifters and attention you-know-whats. The extremely small amount of people who I follow on YouTube do not do it as their sole form of income (if any at all) and have never (to my knowledge) done sponsored videos. They have real jobs and contribute to society. They are real, they are authentic and they provide information first and their opinions second. I do not care what that gamer bro doofus Linus thinks, the Apple lover bimbo or the phone guy that created a $20 wallpaper app. These 'influencers' are so fake, phony and narcissistic.

Ever since Google stepped up their war on ad blockers I've been trying to spend more time on YouTube. UBlock Orgin Lite and the original UBlock do a great job at blocking ads still. Since I'm a free loading leach, Google would prefer I take my ball and go home and not waste their resources, but I'll just use it more out of spite. But there is way too much AI slop out there.

I've had that area turned off since it was created. No interest. I spend very little time on YouTube at all.
Same with me. The first time they went live and I had like 692 (maybe more!) posts suddenly showing in the "What's New" list, I zapped it all. I have no desire to see any of that.

But thank God for the Youtube people that post videos on how to fix appliances and such. They have literally saved me THOUSANDS of dollars. We are still running a 21~ year old Maytag washer because of that, that would otherwise have been junked 3 years ago. Could I have fixed my stuff without them? Yep, but they make it so easy, and there's no missteps since they filter out all the mistakes I might have made.

same - i have fixed so many random parts on my car (BMW) with these videos. For other things like appliances, at the very least, they are good to help me determine "is this worth fixing or not" even if the fix may be outside of my capabilities (sometimes you need the right tools in addition to the right parts).

My turn. YT using Smart Tube on an Amazon streamer makes most of the experience more pleasant with ads stripped and a settings menu that will confuse you until your learning curve catches up. After that, an occasional update fixes the Borg flux modulation adaptations.

I'm still like I am with electric cars with AI. Although interesting, with YT encouraging more and more AI and the fact that they even are now providing and encouraging the use of tools to make you. Yes, Even You! Become a content provider. All of the catchy James Web discovers something terrifying.... Amazing findings changes the whole...Mars Rover uncovers.
And you get curious and try to watch them. History from day one. Paragraph text to speech. Eff one-five. The bee.......onebeee. Yeah. Irritating. AI cheapens the experience as opposed to ones that put the work in.

In my darkest days I would never hop out of my bed still in my jammies and bedroom slippers without having a shower in weeks and meandering down to the scrap yard to melt and pour and forge steel in a filthy, unkempt shop.
Or spin down a chunk of sewer pipe in a "lather machine" for use as a truck axle using calipers that look like the mandibles of some Aussie bug.

Big job vetting the vids that are informative. I obviously love electronics and keeping up is fun. There are "the guys" with posts almost every day that show their skills. I learned a lot on repairing SMD component devices. My interests are diverse. But....
I see an interesting video on power supply repairs in plain English and get a guy with grandpa's 300 watt cow branding iron with roosters crowing in the background and all I hear is hib-bibbly-bibbbbb razhmesh tron-zeees-torrrr an kap-aa-ceee-torrr. Balloon for Balun, Ker-ram-ic for ceramic. Things I'd love to pick up on and aborted all-to-hell.
AI. The russian M......I.......G..........twentyone. We ain't ready for it. Hell. Let me turn this into a 'tube video using AI with a few pics and short pertinent video clips and see what we get. You'd hate me more than you already do now!

Normally, I go to YT to find info on how to repair stuff. But it's always entertaining to look at the red pill stuff. Sometimes I'll watch a movie but YT seems to censor some content in the movie.
