Ever since the new DIRECTV NOW App and DVR was announced it was reported that AT&T planned to merge DIRECTV NOW with DIRECTV/AT&T users. We saw this early on when the very earliest beta testers to DIRECTV NOW’s DVR beta needed to have an AT&T account to sign up for the beta. Now it looks like AT&T has started to merge the accounts of DIRECTV NOW with AT&T accounts.

AT&T has made it clear they want the DIRECTV NOW app to become the app for DIRECTV subscribers also. Now it looks like AT&T is taking one more step to make that a reality as they get closer to rolling out the new DIRECTV NOW app that is currently in beta.

So if I have D* I should be able to log into D* Now and get it free ?
Its essentially the same as what I'm already paying for ...

Doubt it. I have DTVNow and the beta. Up until about a few weeks ago, they were separate logins. Now both my DTVNow login and my DTVNow beta logins (myATT) merged and my old DTVNow login no longer works. I believe it has more to do with network app logins. I can now log into apps using DirecTV as a provider instead of using DTVNow using my DTVNow credentials.

I think DirecTV NOW is supposed to replace the DirecTV Mobile APP so I don't see why DirecTV customers wouldn't get DirecTV NOW for free. Then that way I think that would make the DirecTV Mobile APP better and also use it for bad weather backup.

Let me know when this can be confirmed .... :hatsoff

Sorry I forgot to this. This article was in 2017.

AT&T To Deliver More Content On Your Terms

"AT&T this fall will begin rolling out the next-generation platform to customers, starting with DIRECTV NOW and DIRECTV companion app users. The platform will eventually provide a consistent look and feel across AT&T consumer video services throughout the United States."

AT&T is actually in the process of moving off of the "Legacy DirecTV" billing system to a unified billing system for all their products (wireless, internet, u-verse & dtv). They are slowly doing this in waves throughout 2018 & 2019. Essentially this is what will happen:
  • You will get emails from AT&T or letters with your bill when your time to move to ATT.com has come
  • Charges will stay the same
  • Online login will stay the same however it will be called an AT&T Access ID
  • Your account number will change to a 9 digit format that AT&T uses
  • If you have more than 1 AT&T product (DTV and Wireless for example) and you receive separate bills you will continue to do so
  • The format of the bill will change
  • To manage your bill, make payments, change programming, etc. you will be using their myATT app or going to att.com
  • To stream all of your DirecTV satellite content you will go to directv.com/entertainment or use the DirecTV app and log in with your former DTV email and password that will become your AT&T Access ID.
For more information visit: Your DIRECTV Account is Moving to AT&T on how the process will work.

Eventually they will begin to sign new customers up so their account is managed from the new billing system on Day 1 instead of doing it the traditional way and having new customers be added to the "Legacy DirecTV" billing system.
