New SW on the Hopper REALLY sucks!

That's what makes Dish still relevant. The low-cost options and flexibility in programming choices. Without a bundling conglomeration to compete with, they have to offer choices other providers aren't.

They may not be the best option out there, but they are the most flexible.

Will you be doing daily updates on your decision making process ?

I agree, it’s time to let it have a rest.

But I think my post you quoted made it clear this isn’t a near term decision. It’ll drag out, and unless something new comes up, I won’t beat it further to death.

This is a thought question and not looking for a reply.

Can you walk away from this forum ?

If Dish decides to fix this issue what is the "normal" or expected time frame to do so or do they leave it as-is and sooner or later we all adjust to it?

Sadly it takes a little time before they tag something as being a bug. They look at number of call-in to tech, whether or not it's only affecting certain hardware types...

For example...in April they targeted Arizona and New Mexico for getting a popup message for new features that a fresh install may not have visited yet. So if you just got Dish, and you haven't visited Netflix via the app or ch. 370, then you would get a small box to briefly say something like "hey, you can do this by going to 370" ...or something along that line.
But only in those 2 states ...no one else with a new install outside that area would see that.
That's not really a bug, but I think they want to see how close they can get with targeting. And that may be helpful in getting bugs in the near future.. Who knows.

If a bug is captured, they want to try and get it fixed within a month or two. While that is the ideal time, it may not be true for when it actually gets squashed.

Navychop wrote the following on April 12. Take note of the final sentence and it might help
you understand the question. If he was offended by the question he is welcome to say so.

"Which FiOS boxes did you get? I asked for minimum 6 tuner, but I think they proposed the 12 tuner to of the bill. Waiting for them to get back to me.

Thanks for reminding me to ask about the recording in progress light. Who knows, it might be blue!

I’ll have to find a Verizon office where I can play with their equipment.

Oddly, Verizon doesn’t have the Weather Channel. They have Accuweather, though. More than good enough?

I might cut my Dish bill by eighty bucks or so, and pay Verizon about $178, up from the $108 I pay now. Or I might get that $108 cut.

I was happy with my ViP722 units. But the Hopper was much better. Was. But I still wouldn’t go back.

If I go with FiOS and just watch Dish EHD material, I might not post so much here anymore.

Who's to say they are bugs. Some of these changes were by design. Wish I could say more. :)

Not sure how much you can comment, however, I'll go ahead and ask.

Are you saying that the 'bug' that basically makes being able to watch recordings from Hopper 3 'A' on Hopper 3 'B' and vice versa is not really a 'bug' but a 'feature?'

Hope if it's a new 'feature' something is missing thats not yet in there.

Otherwise, the new firmware basically makes having multiple Hopper 3's useless as far as having them networked together to share recordings.

Dish is no longer the best option out there.

For some, maybe. Certainly not the case here. Cable offerings/quality/equipment/costs vary widely from city to city, even within the large cable conglomerates. Here, we have no FIOS, so it's only Dish, Direct, or the local podunk cable company, who isn't part of one of the conglomerates. My parents still have their cable in their apartment. (No LOS for a dish) They pay more for fewer channels, PQ is nothing special, and hardware? Their receiver still has the same interface their boxes have used since 1999. Dish is a long way from being perfect, but they are way ahead of the local competition here.

Right now, I have no other options except for Dish or DirecTV.

But where I live is located in Phase II of our rural electric cooperative’s fiber build out project.

They have started construction on Phase II and hopefully it will be complete by the end of the year.

I’ll be going from being able to only get 4.0/512k DSL from CenturyLink to 1Gbps/1Gbps fiber.

The co-op doesn’t have a video option right now, in order to be able to reduce costs for the project.

Only 100Mbps/100Mbps or 1Gbps/1Gbps Internet and VoIP phone service so far.

Hopefully when they get built out in more areas they’ll add a video service.

In the meanwhile after I get the fiber, I had thought about trying one of the streaming services.

Dish’s recent firmware debacle will definitely push me in that direction, if things haven’t gotten a lot better by the time I can get fiber here.

I have never had a new version that basically made my system unusable, but this one has nearly done that when it comes to being able to use multiple Hopper 3’s.

I wish you could say more as well.

Two hoppers with sling. Interoperability has been reduced to nothing. Say nothing of the one unit is now so corrupted that it wont even recognize an external drive.

Over 20 years with dish; if not for OTA integration, I’d be long gone. Not to say that they haven’t tried their best to break that feature as well...

Seriously what gives...

Say - what could I get for a pub membership

This AM I answered a Dish online questionnaire…“How likely are you to recommend DISH to a friend or family member?”
I gave them a 2 of 10 and on the next screen answered why…
Poor quality software design and testing with 2 examples.
* The reduced functionality of the U511 DVR screen missing program tittles
and
* The new web version of Dish Anywhere not displaying my recorded programs and telling me that Prime Time Anytime was not set up — both wrong.

Later this AM I received an email from a member of Dish support.

“Hi,

I can understand your frustration. I would be very upset too. I can assure you that we do test the software before we release it. The missing show titles are by design. I will submit your feedback making sure that your voice is heard.

I want to thank you for taking your valuable time and letting us know how you feel. The best way to know what customers want is through these surveys!

Thank you so much for being part of the DISH family for over 11 years! I hope you have a great weekend!

[name and email]”

The good news is that Dish is listening:) The bad news is that Dish may be tone deaf :(
