Is it better to update this receiver over the internet than using a stick drive? I guess what I'm wanting to know is if it goes through the whole procedure if you use the internet option. I know I'll need to back up my channel list, but is that all that's necessary to avoid some of the problems that occur with USB updates? Also, what is the latest firmware version for this receiver?

The latest FW is v160. I've always updated mine locally from a USB stick.

Thanks for the info. I've never updated this receiver yet, but some of the others I have seemed to go a little easier if it could be done via the auto download function over the internet. Some offer that option, others don't. I can't remember which receiver it was, I think it was the HDVR 3500, ended up in a boot loop. Another one I had bricked out when I used the USB update. Never could get it back up, but the manufacturer replaced it with one that had the latest firmware.

I have updated mine 4 times since I got it. I put it into the boot loop 3 times before I started using a USB stick.

When you updated yours, did you find any fixes or added features? I haven't had much luck with the IPTV stuff. I don't care about the X-Rated junk, but the channels like National Geographics and some of the others interest me, but I keep getting incompatable file, format or some other junk like that. YouTube used to work, but I can't get it to work now. I haven't had much luck getting the wireless connection to work either. Works great hard wired. :)

I've updated mine a few times, always over the network. No boot loops, but I still don't have a working clock...

I haven't owned a receiver yet where the clock kept time. It would be nice that way I could set the recorder and let it start recording when I want it to. I don't suppose the programmers on FTA transmit the guide info. It does work when I find scrambled channels ITC. I have a friend I talk to almost every day, and he keeps me up to speed on what's on, at least the ones DISH carries, like MeTV, Grit, etc. I might give it a try to update the firmware later today. Hopefully everything will go as planned.

I haven't had luck for crap lately. My 75 inch TV went tits up yesterday evening. Got grey shadows in the picture, and went off later flashing a code on the power light. Flashes 6 times, whatever that means. That's 2 Sony TV's I've had go down, and it will be the last for me. No more Sony TV's. I'm going this evening to get a new 75 inch LG 4K curved screen with the OLED diodes. We'll see how that baby looks.

I have a Roku box in my system, so I've never used any of the Internet features on the Linkbox. The Roku remote is much quicker for me to use.

Yeah, I kind of gave up on hooking it to the internet after not being able to connect to most of the stuff it found. It was just a novelty anyway. Hows your remote work on the 9000i? Mine is very touchy about being aimed dead at the receiver. I thought the batteries were low, but when I changed them, nothing changed. My living room is 23 feet long and I'm shooting clear across the room at the STB.

I had a bad week last week. My 65 inch Sony went tits up. We were watching it, and it just went off and started flashing a 6 flash code on the power light. According to what I can find on the net, it has a power supply problem. If I unplug it, plug it back in and turn it back on, it will come on for a few seconds and go back off and start flashing the code. I don't think there's much wrong with it, but I'm going this weekend to get another TV,

No more Sony TV's. That's the second one that died on me. I have an LG that's three years older than this one, and it's working just fine.

My remote works fine. I've changed the batteries 1 time in 2.5 years. Ouch! on the 65 inch.

I'm getting ready to spend $1500 on a new 70 inch UHD curved screen LG TV. I'll put my 55 inch back in the bedroom when I get it. My living room is 23 feet long and the 55 inch is a little under sized after watching a 65 inch. One thing i do like about the Linkbox is the fact that you can cut the contrast back on the TV and turn it up on the receiver without overdriving the TV.

I run mine in vivid mode, and when you turn up the contrast on the TV or 100%, the voltage increases to the LED's and shortens their life. The back light shouldn't be at 100% either. I adjust the color by turning the color all the way off and adjust the black level until it's correct, and then turn the color up just enough to make everything pop after adding the color back. If you find a color bar test screen, there should be a black line between the color bars.

If you can see them, the sharpness in correct. Best to use a 1080I or P channel.
